INTERNSHIP GOALS SUMMER 2014 Clearly communicate with coworkers, clients, and contacts Communicating with coworkers, clients, and contacts has consisted of both digital communications through emails and aim messenger and facetoface interactions such as attending events like Dunkel Dare at Frankford Hall and Support our Schools at Jones restaurant. Other forms of communication included how to write an ask letter for The Sheppard and a pitch email for Mad Delicious. Learn how to better identify sources and develop stronger research skills After studying and reading Philadelphia media outlets I began to identify who the influencers are in terms of writers, editors, producers, ect. I also updated and revised the Philly Critic Packet, which exposed me to important contacts for each Philly outlet. Finish tasks in a timely manner Improving my research skills on search engines such as Google and learning keyboard shortcuts on Excel reduced the amount of time needed to complete each task. I also learned how to use the advanced search feature in Cision. This allowed me to customize contact lists and easily export and reformat in Excel or Google Docs. Stay in the News: Continuously stay updated on Philadelphia client news, events, features Staying up to date is imperative because it is our goal to show clients their feature/segment before they see it themselves. For example: sending a link to a client, clipping the article using the Paparazzi program, or updating a status regularly. Learn language/style of media alerts and correctly start and finish an alert

INTERNSHIP  GOALS    SUMMER  2014

Ø Clearly  communicate  with  co-‐workers,  clients,  and  contacts

Communicating  with  co-‐workers,  clients,  and  contacts  has  consisted  of  both  digital  communications  through  e-‐mails  and  aim  messenger  and  face-‐to-‐face  interactions  such  as  attending  events  like  Dunkel  Dare  at  Frankford  Hall  and  Support  our  Schools  at  Jones  restaurant.        Other  forms  of  communication  included  how  to  write  an  ask  letter  for  The  Sheppard  and  a  pitch  e-‐mail  for  Mad  Delicious.

Ø Learn  how  to  better  identify  sources  and  develop  stronger  research  skills      After  studying  and  reading  Philadelphia  media  outlets  I  began  to  identify  who  the  influencers  are  in  terms  of  writers,  editors,  producers,  ect.  I  also  updated  and  revised  the  Philly  Critic  Packet,  which  exposed  me  to  important  contacts  for  each  Philly  outlet.

Ø Finish  tasks  in  a  timely  manner      Improving  my  research  skills  on  search  engines  such  as  Google  and  learning  keyboard  shortcuts  on  Excel  reduced  the  amount  of  time  needed  to  complete  each  task.  I  also  learned  how  to  use  the  advanced  search  feature  in  Cision.    This  allowed  me  to  customize  contact  lists  and  easily  export  and  reformat  in  Excel  or  Google  Docs.

Ø Stay  in  the  News:  Continuously  stay  updated  on  Philadelphia  client  news,  events,  features

Staying  up  to  date  is  imperative  because  it  is  our  goal  to  show  clients  their  feature/segment  before  they  see  it  themselves.  For  example:  sending  a  link  to  a  client,  clipping  the  article  using  the  Paparazzi  program,  or  updating  a  status  regularly.

Ø Learn  language/style  of  media  alerts  and  correctly  start  and  finish  an  alert

Page 2: The Door Internship Goals

I  drafted  and  completed  several  media  alerts  for:  Granite  Hill’s  Local  Craft  Beer  Tasting,  Granite  Hill’s  Dinner  Series  Clambake,  Cook  with  Your  Kids,  and  Khe-‐Yo’s  launch  of  lunch.

Ø Improve  upon  my  social  media  skills  such  as  taking  appealing  pictures,  captivating  the  target  audience,  and  posting  thoughtful  messages/captions

In  addition  to  following  all  social  media  accounts  for  The  Door  I  utilized  a  Twitter  list  to  follow  clients  such  as  Spike  Mendelsohn  (@chefspike)  &  Vernick  Food  &  Drink  (@vernickphilly)  and  Philadelphia  outlets  like  Eater  Philly,  Zagat  Philly,  PhillyMag,  Foobooz,  Uwishuny,  Philly.com  and  more.      I  also  worked  on  a  social  media  outline  for  The  Sheppard  and  discovered  TweetDeck  is  a  stronger  platform  compared  to  Hootsuite  when  scheduling  posts  with  pictures  attached.

Ø Gain  an  understanding  of  partner  relations  such  as  how  to  sustain  an  image,  showcase  talents,  build  relationships,  and  market  excitement

In  order  to  meet  client  expectations  I  often  performed  background  research  before  I  created  a  document  or  provided  contact  lists.  For  Mad  Delicious  I  drafted  the  first  version  of  their  press  release  after  reviewing  a  sample  of  their  cookbook.  I  also  tried  to  establish  connections  for  cookbook  author,  Keith  Schroeder,  in  Atlanta  by  identifying  the  top  Atlanta  outlets  to  pitch  the  press  release  to.

Ø Make  the  most  out  of  my  experience  by  asking  questions  and  getting  acquainted  with  employees  working  in  different  positions  throughout  The  Door

In  addition  to  working  with  Caroline,  I  established  a  relationship  with  Addie  and  worked  with  her  on  a  weekly  basis  to  discuss  questions  and  company  procedures.  I  also  traveled  into  the  New  York  office  to  meet  each  employee  and  witness  the  office  culture  of  The  Door.    In  New  York  I  was  able  to  interact  with  both  interns  and  employees  who  shared  their  knowledge  and  explained  their  role  at  The  Door.

Ø Come  to  work  each  day  with  new  ideas  and  ready  to  assist  in  client-‐related  activities

Each  day  I  worked  for  The  Door  I  came  willing  to  complete  any  task.  Although  the  first  draft  often  required  revisions,  I  worked  toward  perfecting  the  final  draft  and  submitting  work  I  was  proud  of.        Completed  Tasks:    Cision:
