What’s Purple Friday?

On designated Fridays (sometimes a Monday or

Thursday) students may wear Ravens jerseys, shirts,

or colors with their gym shorts or gym pants and

tennis shoes for a donation of 50 cents. The SJE

Student Council will choose a charity that will

receive the proceeds. Students also may wear purple

and /or black socks, ribbons, bows, and jewelry.

The dates are marked on the website calendar and

highlighted in the weekly update. Our first Purple

Day will be on Friday, October 4.

What’s Spirit Day?

Once a month on the Tuesday that we have our

pizza lunch in the Church Hall, we also have a

special spirit day. Our student council chooses a

theme, and students can wear t-shirts, socks, and

hair accessories reflective of that theme with their

gym pants and gym shoes. Our first SJE Spirit Day

is September 24, and no donation is required. The

theme will change each month and be announced in

the weekly update.

Kids in Nature

After-School Garden Club

It’s time for our Fall session of the After School Garden Club at St. John. After-

school gardening classes teach children about plants and nature. Classes are

conducted by Maryland Master Gardeners.

Children will work outdoors, weather permitting, planting flowers and crops in the

school’s raised beds. We began work on a pollinator garden last Spring and hope to

continue to add to and cultivate it.

Students will learn about seeds and how they develop into plants. Students will also

learn about insects, butterflies, and other pollinators.

Ten classes are on Mondays from 3:00 – 4:00, September 30 until December 9 (no

session on October 21). A detailed list of classes will be provided at the first class.

If you have questions, please contact Marsha Brett at [email protected] or

call me at (410) 931-1261.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The cost for the After School Garden Club is $40 per child. If you are writing a

check, it should be made to St. John the Evangelist School and returned to your

child’s teacher with this form.
