By now, many of you know that the look and the feel of the new space at the Hub on Smith has certainly changed in a number of ways. There is a short list of items that are still in progress, however most of the work has been completed. If you haven’t already, please come down to 211 Smith Street and see for yourself. We will be happy to give you a tour.

We have introduced some changes and new practices in some of our operations. Business hours are 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. This means the phones, the reception desk, and administrative staff are available during these hours. Monday through Friday we offer four choices for breakfast from 7 a.m. -10 a.m. with a suggested contribution of $5 for people 60 and over. Our main entrance doors will open at 7 a.m. to accommodate the breakfast service. Lunch is served from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. seven days a week at the Hub. Our salad bar consists of an amazing assortment of greens and vegetables with a delicious soup too! We no longer call tables. People simply eat when they choose. We are now using dishes versus the institutional “lunch tray”. We continue to be open at the Hub on Smith every weekend with a lunch service from 11a.m. to 1 p.m. I do understand that change can be difficult and I certainly respect that not everyone has the same tastes and preferences. I really appreciate those of you who have come to me directly and shared your thoughts and ideas. In the end, our organization is not about a name or a building. It is about the people and the services we provide. I thank all of you for your patience and flexibility over the past year. I want to extend a special note of gratitude to the staff and volunteers who have worked so hard to make sure programs to the people we serve have not been compromised in any way. We are really loving the new and additional space to work and serve the older people of Sheridan!

The HUB was transformed into “Super Hero Central” on October 19th, as staff celebrated the dedicated service of it’s over 300 volunteers. Volunteers served 23,530 hours over the past fiscal year (Oct. 2017-Sept. 2017),contributing $235,300 as in-kind service. The HUB thanks our volunteer servers from the community and the students from the Sheridan College Nursing Program. A big heartfelt thank you to Carla White for photos of the evening, and the staff at the Hub on Smith! If you or someone you know is interested in volunteering, we have many opportunities for serving our senior community. Snowshoeing Hike Tue, Feb, 20, 2018 – This hike will take place on Black Mountain Road in the Big Horn Mountains. Transportation will be carpooling. As we head into the Holiday Season we are looking to bring more volunteers into our store! Our current pressing needs are for individuals that can work on Thursdays and Fridays and cashiers! Green Boomerang utilizes the Square App for our Point of Sale. Ringing on this system is as easy as choosing the department and entering a price. We also need individ-uals that can help sort and price items. If you are willing to learn both positions in the back and cashiering it’s even better! Do you have a sunny disposition and a few extra hours that you could help out? Our volunteers also earn 50 cents in store credit per hour that they work. If you are interested please pick up an application at the front desk and turn it in to Terri Hayden. Green Boomerang will also be participating in the 2017 Christmas Stroll. Just Harmony will be performing in store. We are planning on having some Upcycling Project ideas. Like us on Facebook or check in with the store for an Itinerary for the evening.
