Hi folks, WOW,, it‘s almost Thanksgiving and 2016 is just around the corner. Time really is
flying by. I‘m writing this message on October 25 and Halloween is a week away. Judy and I
just left Costco and they already have all of their Christmas stuff out. What‘s up with that?
A BIG THANKS goes out to our nominating committee, Joe Ryan, Sandy Kay and Jill Schwab (and their
respective spouses). They have come up with a fantastic slate of officers for next year. This time around it was
tougher than usual since 90 percent of the board is changing out. Great job you guys/gals!! Check out who‘s
running for office on the ballot (last page of this Fan). Thanks in advance to those that have ―stepped up,‖ I
know you‘ll keep our tradition of being the best car club in California. Don‘t forget to fill out your ballot and
bring it to our November meeting. If you can‘t make the meeting, you can mail in your vote to our P.O. Box so
that it arrives by 11/13.
Note to self: remind the incoming and outgoing board to get together individually to go over the duties of each
of your functions.
I‘ve got one more Prez letter to do for December and I‘m mentioning it now cuz I don‘t know what else to write
about. LOL
Make sure you have signed up to attend the Holiday Festivus ―Round-up‖ AND awards dinner night. These
two events usually brings out the most members for ―indoor‖ events and we get to see folks all dressed up …
hahah …
That‘s it for now… see ya on Friday, November 13th.
Happy Thanksgiving ….

The membership count is currently at 96.
Ray talked about Toys for Tots. Bring in your unwrapped toys to the November meeting or to Festivus. He also talked
about his ―pick a number‖ question in his President‘s message to make sure everyone is reading what he writes.

SECRETARY: Tina Ford asked if there were any additions or corrections to last month‘s minutes. There were none, so
the September minutes were accepted as written.
TREASURER: Bob Lawrence gave a detailed report of our finances. About 9 months ago, at a Board Meeting, we
decided to keep a reserve amount. Bob will open a separate account and call it the reserve account.
ACTIVITIES: Don Hamblin reported.

2. Festivus (Dec. 11th) Ray & Judy Delgado. At the Great Highway in San Carlos. Country Western theme. There
will be a Best Dressed Contest. $45 per person.
3. Senior Bag Stuffing (Dec. 10th) Jill Schwab
Paul Perry talked about the Birds on the Wharf event. He thanked everyone who participated. 72 cars were at the event.
There was a clerical error and Bonnie Hollingsworth‘s car won first place in the 1955 category.
DISPLAYS: Carl Epolite reported. There are no more displays this year.
Don Reisinger said that the Veterans Day Parade IS happening. Wed. Nov. 11th
For the Morro Bay Car Show Event in 2016, see Don Reisinger.
Don also reported on the Overbird/Underbird event. He had the engraved awards and handed them out to Bernie Epolite
for her ‘55, Doc Docktor for his ‘56, Dick Osgood for his ‘57 and the Underbird Award went to Patrick & Tina Ford for
their ‘55 Junior.
PARADES AND HOMECOMINGS: Kathy Kelley reported. We are halfway through the homecoming season. 4 more
to go. Ray thanked Kathy for all of the juggling she has had to do to get the homecomings done.
EDITOR: Casey & Skip reported. Casey said that if it wasn‘t for all of the members sending photos and stories about
events, etc. the Fan would not be the award winning newsletter it is. One correction: Rich & Margaret Pellarin were the

winners of the Merit Award at Ironstone (not the McDonalds). The picture of the witch and the monkey were Bernie &
Carl Epolite. The picture of the red car was Paul Kelley‘s.
LOGO SALES: Bernie Epolite was absent.
CTCI: Joe Ryan reported. Article coming up in the next issue.
HISTORIAN: Paul Lynch and Janette Adair. Paul read ―this day in history‖ facts!
WEBSITE: Larry Maness reported. The website got hacked into, so we got protection set up for a year to fix the
problem.
OLD BUSINESS: Nominating Committee Report. Thank you to Joe Ryan, Sandie Kay and Jill Schwab. Here are the
members that will be on the ballot: Laurie Reisinger and Sandy Sieroty – Fundraising, Don Hamblin – Displays, Patrick
Ford – Activities, Skip and Casey – Editor, Diana Mann – Treasurer, Diane Deutsch – Secretary, Les Miller – Vice
President, and Charlie Affrunti – President. Appointees for 2016 are: Eddi Cox – Logo Sales, Larry Maness –
Webmaster, Cliff Monroe – CTCI Rep, Paul Lynch and Janette Adair – Historian.
We do not have a Parades person.
Diane Deutsch said if someone else would do Secretary that she would do Parades. Kathy Kelley said she would do it
again if she had help from someone.
Ray suggested clarifying the two positions and there was a discussion. In the end it was decided that Kathy Kelley will do
Homecomings for another year. Don Hamblin will do Parades and Displays and help with Homecomings if necessary.
Everyone agreed there was no need to change the constitution. Patrick Ford brought up the fact that if a person other than
the lead can help with logistics or other details of a parade, etc., they can assist the lead person. Ray said he just needs to
know who to thank at the end when the awards are given out.
Charlie thanked Les Miller and Bobbie for stepping up for the Vice President position.
NEW BUSINESS: Paul Perry asked the club members what they thought about him bringing his Retro Bird to parades,
etc. because he will be selling his ‘55 Bird. There was a discussion. Ray felt that as long as it is cleared by a school, if it
is for a homecoming, that it would be okay. Rick Deutsch wanted it noted that, in his opinion, our T-Bird club is for ‘55,
‘56 and ‘57 Birds only. Bill Croxton said that CTCI had this discussion and it was decided not to include the Retro Birds.
Ray concluded that if it is cleared for a particular club event, such as a Homecoming or Parade, that an exception can be
made.
TECH SESSION: Nothing reported.
BUY/SELL: Nothing reported.
Next month‘s snacks: Geoff & Elaine Dye Next month‘s drinks: Rich & Roxanne Parker
Jenny & Al brought Halloween Treats for everyone!!!!!!! Thank you.
FUND RAISING: Jill Schwab. Halloween & Octoberfest Theme!!!!! And everything Pumpkin Spiced …

HOLIDAY FESTIVUS
DRIVE
SCVT decided early this year that we would
try and start our Festivus Toys for Tots
drive BEFORE the event. The reason is, the
―Toy for Tots Fly-by‖ driven by Don
Reisinger and his Elves is usually before our
Festivus. We decided, in order to
supplement that event with toys, we would bring your unwrapped new
toys to our October and November meetings.
This would not only supply more toys for the ―fly-by‖, but also allow
folks that can‘t make the Festivus a chance to contribute to our annual
Toys for Tots Campaign.
That being said: Those that have
already contributed AND those that do
so at our November 13th meeting will
receive a raffle ticket that will be drawn at the Festivus. (Place your name on the ticket so
you don‘t have to be present to win). Each couple that brings a Toy will receive one
ticket. No Toy, No Ticket !! Suggested price range is about 15-20 bucks, it‘s your
discretion of course.

Armistice Day Becomes Veterans Day
World War I officially ended on June 28, 1919, with the signing of the Treaty of Versailles. The actual fighting between
the Allies and Germany, however, had ended seven months earlier with the armistice, which went into effect on the
eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month in 1918. Armistice Day, as November 11 became known,
officially became a holiday in the United States in 1926, and a national holiday 12 years later. On June 1, 1954, the name
was changed to Veterans Day to honor all U.S. veterans.
In 1968, new legislation changed the national commemoration of Veterans Day to the fourth Monday in October. It soon
became apparent, however, that November 11 was a date of historic significance to many Americans. Therefore, in 1978
Congress returned the observance to its traditional date.

―The first time I went to my husband‘s house in
1983, I learned he was a car enthusiast. He had a
1956 Ford F100 in pieces, all over his living room
floor. One couch and truck parts constituted his
living room furniture. Over the next few years I
watched as he and his best friend rebuilt the truck.
It was his pride and joy. I drove the truck once in
30 years because it was his ‗baby.‘
―Fast forward to 2014. At the end of May, Jerry
was diagnosed with cancer. He endured a lot in the
5 ½ months after the diagnosis and we made many,
many trips to the doctor and to the hospital in that time. As we were returning home from a weekend visit to the clinic for
one of his treatments, we were on El Camino in Sunnyvale. I was driving because he wasn‘t feeling very good. By this
time, Jerry was using a cane and wearing a big back brace. Suddenly he saw a beautiful white T Bird in the lane next to
us up ahead and he became VERY excited — telling me to pull up next to it. THAT was easier said than done and I tried
to get him to calm down. But I hadn‘t seen the ―for sale‖ sign on it and he had ………
―Eventually I could get close enough that Jerry could yell out the window and ask the driver to pull over so he could look
at it. Less than an hour later, he was happier than I‘d seen him in many months. As it turned out, Jerry and Charlie Ryan
really hit it off and he was extremely happy to spend as much time as possible talking to Charlie about the car. As I sat in
our car in that parking lot off El Camino watching him, my first instinct was that he was crazy to be doing this. But I had
also told him how beautiful the car was. He was able to drive it a total of 4 times before he died but he said that it just
made him happy to see it in the garage. And he wanted me to learn to drive the car and realized I appreciated it. I guess
it‘s time for me to learn the difference between a fuel injector and a fuel pump!‖

For those who care, the fuse on the cigarette lighter on a T-Bird is of the non-burn-out type and does not have to be
replaced. Remove the fuse from the back of the lighter socket. Insert a small wire or nail in the hole in the end of the fuse
and press until you hear a snap. The fuse is now reset and as good as new.

On Sunday, October 11th some of us met for early breakfast at Nini's up the street from Don Hamblin‘s shop and then
caravaned to the United Northern service facility. The following members joined in to participate in United Airlines
Family Day and Fleet Week celebration; Sandie and Dennis Kay, Al Thomas, Barry and Margaret Moore, Don Hamblin,
Skip Doughty, Patrick and Tina Ford and Patrick‘s dad Steven, Ted Obniski and Kathy and Paul Kelley. The Patriot
flying team was there, taking off for SF to join the air show with the Blue Angels; live music for entertainment; and lots
of free stuff from multiple vendors. There were about 80 cars participating in the car show. Many planes were on
display, some open for interior viewing, among which were a wide body and small service aircraft. You could view the
service areas and other interesting airline facilities. It was a nice venue and enjoyable day. Perhaps other club members
would like to participate next year.
