Key Dates: Final Exam – all day Tuesday 25th and Wednesday 26th April Specific Guidance how to revise for your subject: This current externally assessed project is worth 40% of the student’s final grade for Art and runs from January until the final exam dates above. As there is no written exam, students must ensure they are completing all their homework on time and meeting all deadlines. This will roughly take them an additional two hours every week on top of the three hours spent in class. It’s worth noting for the higher grades, this can take much longer depending on the speed the student works at and the grade they wish to achieve. This can be done in the following ways:

• Before school in the art rooms from 7.30am • At break in the art rooms (with the prior agreement of the teachers) • At lunch: Monday – Thursday in the art rooms • After school – every day except Monday until at least 4.30pm • At home

Every student will also be allotted an additional weekly 1-2-1 time slot during lunch time where they have the opportunity to discuss their work with their teacher. If they miss this session, another slot will not be allotted until the following week.

Top tips for controlled assessment

• Never use google translate! It is a waste of time and makes no sense whatsoever. When in doubt use wordreference.com, it works exactly the same as a dictionary so you can translate single words but not whole sentences

• Look, cover, write, check When trying to learn your controlled assessment, try looking, covering, writing (or speaking) and then checking. The repetition will help you learn your assessment and see where you are doing well and where you need to improve

• Cue cards Don’t try to learn 200 words or 5 minutes of French in one go. Separate your work in to more manageable sized chunks

• Get help from someone else Find a friend or family member to help you learn your assessment. They don’t have to be able to speak French. They can help you by holding your assessment while you say it to them from memory

• Post-it notes Split up your assessment in to smaller chunks and place them in a sequence around the room to help

• Bullet points Try summarising your work in to key bullet points. This will help with the structure of your assessment

• First letter of every Word – E.g “Je parle français” – JPF Write down the first letter of every word and see if you can remember your assessment. As you become more confident, try doing it with fewer letters until you can remember your assessment without any help

• Phrases of the week Every week, I give you a different phrase of the week to write in your books. If you can incorporate these in to your work, you will get lots of marks

• Tenses – Past/present/future You must be able to write/speak in all three tenses to get a C grade and at least two to get a D grade.

• Task planning form You will be allowed 40 words on a task planning form to help you for both the written and spoken assessment

• Use a dictionary You can use a dictionary during the written assessment. These are very useful as they not

The East Manchester Academy Year 11 French

Page 11: The East Manchester Academy Year 11 Useful Informationsmartfuse.s3.amazonaws.com/0496ca22f9c93568237518c20a1dfd76/... · GCSE examinations can be a worrying prospect for your child

only have the translations but also verb tables so you can make sure that you include all three tenses

• Little and often Do not try to cram 200 words or 5 minutes worth of French in one night. It is much better to learn a language by doing little and often. 15 minutes every night is much more beneficial than two hours a fortnight

• Text to Speech - http://text-to-speech.imtranslator.net/ If you are unsure about pronunciation, type your work into this website and it will read it back to you

• Revision guides & workbooks Please use your revision guide and workbook - make the most of these very valuable resources. They are made in conjunction with the exam board, so whatever is in the book may come up on your exam

• Duolinguo Free app which you can download on to your phone or tablet. This is more useful to maintaining your overall level of Spanish and a good way to practice little and often

Key Dates: Final Exam – all day Thursday 20th and Friday 21st April Specific Guidance how to revise for your subject: This current externally assessed project is worth 40% of the student’s final grade for Photography and runs from January until the final exam dates above.

Specification and board: 4695 AQA Key Dates: Spanish reading and listening exam: 19th May 2017 Specific Guidance how to revise: Top tips for controlled assessment

• Cue cards Don’t try to learn 200 words or 5 mins of Spanish in one go. Separate your work in to more manageable sized chunks

• Get help from someone else Find a friend or family member to help you learn your assessment. They don’t have to be able to speak Spanish. They can help you by holding your assessment while you say it to them from memory

• Post-it notes Split up your assessment in to smaller chunks and place them in a sequence around the room to help

• Bullet points Try summarising your work in to key bullet points. This will help with the structure of your assessment

• First letter of every Word – E.g “me gusta el pollo” –MGEL Write down the first letter of every word and see if you can remember your assessment. As you become more confident, try doing it with fewer letters until you can remember your assessment without any help

• Phrases of the week Every week, I give you a different phrase of the week to write in your books. If you can incorporate these in to your work, you will get lots of marks

• Tenses – Past/present/future You must be able to write/speak in all three tenses to get a C grade and at least two to get a D grade

• Crib sheet You will be allowed 40 words on a crib sheet to help you for both the written and spoken assessments

The East Manchester Academy Year 11 Spanish

Page 31: The East Manchester Academy Year 11 Useful Informationsmartfuse.s3.amazonaws.com/0496ca22f9c93568237518c20a1dfd76/... · GCSE examinations can be a worrying prospect for your child

• Use a dictionary You can use a dictionary during the written assessment. These are very useful as they not only have the translations but also verb tables so you can make sure that you include all three tenses

• Little and often Do not try to cram 200 words or 5mins worth of Spanish in one night. It is much better to learn a language by doing little and often. 15 minutes every night is much more beneficial than two hours a fortnight

• Text to Speech - http://text-to-speech.imtranslator.net/ If you are unsure about pronunciation, type your work into this website and it will read it back to you

• Revision guides & workbooks Please take a revision guide and workbook and make the most of these very valuable resources. They are made in conjunction with the exam board, so whatever is in the book may come up on your exam

• Duolinguo This is a free app which you can download on to your phone or tablet. This is more useful to maintaining your overall level of Spanish and a good way to practice little and often
