EDP AWARDS 2017

Every year experts representing Europe’s

20 leading trade magazines on digital

production get together to evaluate and

judge the latest techno logical develop-

ments – products such as soft- and hard-

ware, printing devices, periphery, post -

press solu tions and consumables. The

best products in each cate gory are to be

honoured with an EDP Award. The EDP

magazines support more than half a mil-

lion readers in 25 European countries in

their purchasing decisions – and the EDP

Awards add value to the products.

Now ten years after the foundation of

the EDP we decided to stand at least dif-

ferently anew: with a new logotype and

corporate design and some new ideas to

make the EDP Awards even more attrac-

tive.

The European Digital Press Association

(EDP) and the EDP Awards are ten years

old. During that period the EDP Awards

have become the “most prestigious and

valuable Technical Award for the digital

production business in Euro pe.” This is

the voice of one participant. Thank you

for the compliment!

However, the EDP Association also re-

cognises that it can only organise these

Awards because manufacturers are wil-

ling to submit their products and give us

insight for judging.

During the past ten years we have seen

several changes in the way the industry

introduces products. In the old days, the

EDP Awards would attract a lot of uni-

que products in almost every category.

Groundbreaking products are still sub-

mitted, but there are more upgrades

and reworks of existing products than

completely new ones. This makes the

judging process more complex.

Since 2007 the 20 leading trade maga -

zines on digital print produc tion in

Europe have evaluated and honoured

the best new deve lop ments in software,

print production tools, print, finishing

and consumables. At the 2016 EDP

Award Cere mony, June 1st, at drupa in

Düssel dorf, 27 trophies were awarded.

and developments.

Ten years after the foundation of the

EDP we decided to stand at least differ-

ently anew: with some new ideas to

make the EDP Awards even more attrac-

tive.

Unlimited entries

The next EDP Award Contest 2017,

meanwhile the 11th edition, is open for

participation.

As in the last years, companies are in -

vited to submit their products on own

initiative. All new products and develop -

ments which are announced, presented

and available for testing by jury mem-

bers from April 1st, 2016, till March

15th, 2017, and widely available in the

member coun tries of EDP, are entitled to

parti cipate. Many of the last minute

drupa innovations, not included in the

last year’s EDP Awards 2016, may com-

pete now.

Companies can submit as many products

as they want. There are no restrictions

and the EDP Award is open for unlimi-

ted entries.

Deadline is March 15th 2017.

The categories are extended again to

offer more generic sections. For the cur-

rent EDP Award 2016/2017 we added

more categories especially in the seg-

ments of commercial print and finishing

to adjust the contest on the new techno-

logies we saw in the last months.

But the EDP Award 2017 is still dedica-

ted on digital (printing) technologies.

Therefore, the products which will be

submitted must allow the integration in

a digital workflow. The comprehensive

choice of categories should cover all

solutions in digital printing.

The judging process

After submission each entry will imme -

diately be validated by the EDP Techni -

cal Committee and will be listed at the

EDP Awards web page with a link to the

product’s URL as soon as the sub mission

is approved by the Technical Com mittee.

From all entries the Technical Com mittee

nominates up to three products in each

category.

The judging criteria can be innovation

by (new) technology which improves

speed, quality, usability and functiona-

lity or reduces environmental impact as

well as cost for the users.

To complete technological develop-

ments, EDP and its Technical Committee

also reserve the right to nominate pro-

ducts on their own initiative.

The existence of a category does not

imply that there will be an EDP Award

assigned in that category.

In a general assembly of all EDP mem-

bers the nominated pro ducts will be

dis cussed by represen ta tives of the mem-

ber magazines according to addi tional

criteria such as quality of sup port, price

ratio and so on.

The Jury

The jury consists of specialists and ex-

perts proposed by member magazines or

partnering associations. All jury mem-

bers are neutral and decide uninfluen-

cedly.

The EDP Technical Committee is a per-

manent expert body headed by Herman

Hartman, editor in chief of the maga-

zine SignPro Benelux, and can also be

consult ed as a source of expertise.

The jury members for the EDP Awards

2017 are announced on the EDP internet

site.

Trophies, certificates, report

At the official EDP Award Ceremo ny, the

winning products in each category will

be honoured with an EDP Award trophy,

additional acco lades will be presented

for each nominated product.

In 2017 a representative documentation

will be published by the EDP Association

which includes the Techni cal Report

2016/2017. All submitted products will

be specified and every entry in every

cate gory will be lis ted. We keep you in-

formed.

Entry fee

Organising the EDP Awards, producing

the documentation and the marketing

material involves much effort and a

great deal of ad mi nistrative work.

Therefore EDP charges an entry fee for

each entry in each category to cover the

basic expenses.

The entry fee per product and category

is 400,00 Euro and is precondition to

participate at the EDP Awards. The entry

fee is pay able after approval by the

Technical Committee.

For the Awards in 2017 we offer a prize

progressive rate.

Companies which submit their products

till 31st of January, 2017, pay a reduced

fee of 250,00 Euros. From the 1st of Fe-

bruary the fee amounts to 400,00 Euros.

After approval all submissions in all cate-

gories will be listed on the EDP home-

page and published in the EDP Technical

Report. All submitting com pa nies are in-

vited to use the EDP Award logotypes

for mar keting pur poses free of charge.

Marketing tools

The EDP Association grants the EDP

Awards to the best products of the year

to acknowledge the value of the re-

search and development tasks of the in-

dustry. The logo that identify the EDP

Awards is a quality and innovation mark.

All entries will be validated by the

EDP Technical Committee as soon as they

arrive. As soon as a submitted product is

accepted by the committee, the submit-

ting company receives the label

“Competing in the EDP Awards 2017”

and may use it for the suitable product.

Out of the submitted products the EDP

Technical Committee nominates three

products for the Award in a respective

category. The submitting companies will

be informed about the nomination and

may use the label “Nominated for an

EDP Award”.

perso na lized logo to be used for mar ke -

category will be honoured with an EDP

Award Trophy

New: EDP Superior Award

For the first time the EDP Association

awards a maximum of five special

honourings “EDP Superior Award 2017“.

These awards can (however, must not)

be awarded for the main categories

Premedia, Large/Wide format printing,

Commercial print, Finishing and Con-

sumables. The “EDP Superior Award“

honours products which fascinate in

their category on account of special

qualities.

The value of the awards

One of the goals of EDP Association is

the idea, to assist the technology ap-

pliers in their task to find the right solu-

tion for their applications. Because not

every high tech product meets the requi-

rements in a demanding production en-

vironment. Accolades given to products

not only infuse confidence and credibi-

lity, but signify highest quality to profes-

sional users. Only the very best and

innovative products are taken into consi-

deration.

The EDP magazines promote the Awards

to ensure that they receive international

recognition and superior status within

the digital print industry.

Participation

Participating in the EDP Awards is quiet

simple: For each product just fill in the

entry form in this folder and fax or mail

it or submit it online.

Finally representatives of all win ners and

nominees will be invited to the EDP

Award Ceremony 2017, which will take

place in Ham burg along Fespa 2017. The
