THE EDWARDIAN GAZETTE

Dear Parents and Community Members This week we invested a lot of energy on the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) on vari-ous levels. The Staff Development Meeting for teachers paved the way for a collaborative team effort that will guide us towards a more dynamic approach in the way we deal with the core business in our College. It was a unique opportunity to reflect on our good practices and to ex-plore new ideas for further improvement. The meeting with parents was extremely positive since it proved to be the ideal forum for a healthy exchange of ideas and proposals. I am a firm believer that parental involvement is im-portant in ensuring the smooth running of a school. In fact, various research studies indicate that parents are critical to children’s successes during the school years. The challenge for our College is that all the stakeholders will engage in a reflective process to ensure that we address the important issues which were raised during the meetings.

Best Regards,

Mr George Psaila Headmaster

Wednesday 9 November Students and Parents studying Italian were given an interesting presentation by representa-tives of PLIDA. Dr Mario Pace, Director of Courses The talk was conducted by PLIDA Director of Courses, Dr Mario Pace who introduced the discussion while Chev Mi-callef spoke of the school and its international acclaim. Students and Parents present were given a detailed explanation of the lessons, exams and a preview of part of the oral exam. This was a very interesting and informative talk which gave an insight on the possibilities of an alternative choice from their ‘O’ Levels. PLIDA is a non profit organization, founded in 1889. With over 200 students, the organization is located in 60 coun-tries and manages almost 3,300 schools and institutes. ry Telling and Activity in Maltese

Nathalie Portelli from Wise Owl Publications has given a Reading and Activity session in Maltese to 1 & 2. Ms Portelli's books are colourful, child friendly and include magnetic characters and animals ch the children can stick in their correct places on the pages. This helps with reinforcing their under-

nding of the vocabulary used.
