WelcomeOn behalf of the Organising Committee of the Eighth World Archaeological Congress it is a great pleasure to invite colleagues from across the globe to come to Kyoto, Japan from 28th August to 2nd September 2016. This is the first time that the main conference of WAC has been held in East Asia and we look forward to making it a truly successful and memorable congress. The spacious campus of Doshisha University at centre of the traditional millennium capital will be the main venue for WAC-8. We think Kyoto is one of the most appropriate cities to have a WAC conference. We are planning a varied and engaging thematic programme complemented by a wide range of social events. ごあいさつ　2016年夏、世界中の考古学者を京都へお招きできることは、世界考古学会議第8回京都大会（WAC-8京都）実行委員会の代表として光栄の至りです。WAC（ワック）は、考古学、文化遺産、そしてその現代社会との関わりについて、話し合う国際的な舞台であり、東アジアで本大会が開催されるのは今回初めてです。国内の研究者が連携・協力し、議論の場を準備し、世界中の考古学者と問題を共有したいと願っています。　大会の会場は千年の古都の中心に位置する同志社大学です。歴史が重なり、文化遺産に囲まれた京都は、世界考古学会議にふさわしく、様々な企画、テーマ性の高い多様な分科会をご用意いたします。世界のみなさまが、この京都の地で日本の豊かな文化、考古学、文化遺産を知っていただけるよう尽力してまいります。　京へ、おこしやす！

What is WAC?The World Archaeological Congress (WAC) is a non-governmental, not-for-profit organization and is the only representative world-wide body of practicing archaeologists.WAC seeks to promote interest in the past in all countries, to encourage the development of regionally-based histories and to foster international academic interaction. Its aims are based on the need to recognize the historical and social roles as well as the political context of archaeology, and the need to make archaeological studies relevant to the wider community.WAC is an international forum for discussion for anyone who is concerned with the study of the past. WAC holds an international Congress every four years to promote: the exchange of results from archaeological research; professional training and public education for disadvantaged nations, groups and communities; the empowerment and support of Indigenous groups and First Nations peoples; and the conservation of archaeological sites.Previous WAC Congresses have been held in England, Venezuela, India, South Africa, the United States, Ireland and Jordan.

世界考古学会議（WAC）とは　世界考古学会議〔The World Archaeological Congress （WAC）〕は、非政府・非営利組織で、世界中の考古学者を代表する唯一の団体です。　WACはすべての国・地域の過去に関心を持ち、地域に根差した歴史の追及を促進し、国際的・学術的な相互交流を後押しします。その目的意識は、歴史的・社会的役割 とともに考古学にかかわる政治状況を意識することが必要なことや、より広い人的交流の中で考古学研究を行っていく必要性に基づくものです。　WACは過去についての研究に関わる誰もが話合いに参加できるフォーラムです。WACは、四年ごとに国際会議を開催し、考古学の研究成果を共有しあい、発展途上の国や集団・コミュニティのための専門的な訓練と人々への啓発を行い、先住民への協力や支援を行い、考古遺跡の保存に取り組みます。　これまでのWAC本会議は英国・ベネズエラ・インド・南アフリカ・米国・アイルランド・ヨルダンで開かれています。

Theme and Academic ProgramsWAC Congresses are organized around overarching themes, each of which contains multiple archaeological sessions that relate to the same overall issue. Sessions can be proposed under themes, and individual contributions (papers, posters) can be proposed for approved sessions, or independently, to be placed into the programme as it develops.

　WAC本会議は基本テーマに沿って運営されます。考古学に関連する共通する議題をふくむ様々な分科会がその下に設定されます。各分科会テーマと個人の発表（口頭発表・ポスター発表）は、下記のテーマや分科会ごと、あるいはそれに関わらずお申込みいただけます。その申込みをうけて、大会事務局がそのプログラム編成を行います。

分科会の募集は2015年5月に開始します。個人発表の募集は2015年9月に開始します。
