Honesty Board Game• Materials:

– Board Game– Number dice– Small animal toy

• Instructions:– Choose a small toy animal and position them outside the purple start square. – Pick a card from the card stack and read it. Decide if the statement describes

the characteristics of honesty. The answer will be on the back of the card covered by a small cube flap.

– If you answer correctly, roll the dice and move the number of spaces the dice lands on.

– There might be some freebies, some honest cards that move you forward and watch out for those dishonest cards that send you spaces back!

– The person who gets to the end first is the winner of the Honesty Board Game.

Instructions for ActivitiesActivity #1 - Audio Recording (Individual/Group in Center):

For this activity, you will be able to listen to the story again. What you will need to do is:

1. Insert the CD into the CD player.2. Put your headphones on. 3. Have the book in hand to follow with the recording.

After you listen to the story, try to think about the author's intent - What was the author trying to tell us and they wrote this? Also. try thinking of questions that you want to have answered form the book and write them down during or after you listen to the recording.

Activity #2 – Vocabulary Worksheet:

Game Details and instructions: - The activity for the students is for them to be able to listen to the recording of the book and think more about the author’s intent of the book – why did the author write this? I also want them to listen to it again and come up with question they can discuss in a group after they have listened to the story. The instructions for the students are on the activity card and it explains how to start their activity and questions they need to think about and come up with during their listening recording.

Activity #2 – Vocabulary Worksheet (Individual in Center):

For this activity, you will be matching vocabulary words and definition that are found in the book with the picture that best describes the word.

1. Use the book to help you look for clues about the definition of the vocabulary word.

2. On the column that says “Word,” place the word and definition that corresponds with the picture.

3. On the column that says “Picture,” place the picture that corresponds to the definition.

Once you are done, go to the teacher and show her your work. Make correction if you need to.

Activity #2 – Vocabulary Worksheet:

Game Details and instructions: - In this activity students will be filling out and completing the unfinished Vocabulary Worksheet that includes words that can be found in the book we have just read. They will be using the definition, pictures and the book to help them complete the worksheet and assignment. The complete instructions for students are on the activity card. The worksheet is attached.

Instructions for ActivitiesActivity #3 - Chinese Art and Music (Individual during Center):

For this activity, you will be listening to Chinese Classical Music and drawing a picture using the pictures in the book, the paper, and the music.

1. You will grab the sheet that says, “Chinese Art and Music”2. You will draw using inspiration from the music, the

pictures in the sheet of paper as well as the book. 3. You will write one sentence below your picture about what

you have drawn.

Use your eyes and ears to be inspired in your drawing. Think about the book and how you would feel, see, or hear if you were Ping in China.

Activity #3 – Chinese Art and Music:

Game Details and instructions: - In this activity students will be listening to Chinese Classical Music and drawing a picture using the pictures in the book, the paper, and the music. They will use your eyes and ears to be inspired in your drawing. They will also think about the book and how they would feel, see, or hear if you were Ping in China.

Activity #4 - Sequencing (Individual in Center):

For this activity you will sequence the story (retell the story’s main points and events) in the 6 boxes on the sheet.

1. Write the main events that happened in the story in order.2. Use the 6 boxes to draw and/or write what happened in

the story.

This will help you see if you remembered the order in which the story was told. If you need some hints to remember the book, you can glance at the book just once for 15 seconds. Good luck!

Activity #4 – Sequencing:

Game Details and instructions: - In this activity students will be sequencing the story The Empty Pot by Demi. This will demonstrate their ability to retell the story as well as sequence the main events that happened in the story. There are 6 boxes available. In a sense, they will be retelling the story in their own words. They can either draw or write the sequence of the story and the main events that occurred. They will also be able to glance at the book for 15 seconds if they need a hint.

Activity #5 – Seeds, Flowers and Books (Group and/or Individual in Group):

For this activity , there will be plenty of books about seeds and plants. Some books are informational books and others are storybooks. I want you to read, and look at some of the books about seeds and flowers. Have a piece of paper close by so you can write down questions you have about seeds and flowers as you read the books.

1. Read or look at 2 book minimum. 2. Write at least 2 questions you would like to learn more

about.

While you work on this activity, think about the seeds that were given to Ping and his friends by the Emperor. What kinds of seeds were they? Why didn’t they grow? Remember that the book said the whole kingdom liked flowers. Learn more about flowers and seeds!

Activity #5 - Sees, Flowers and Books:

Game Details and instructions: - In this activity students will be looking at and reading plenty of books about seeds and plants. Some books are informational books and others are storybooks. I want them to read, and look at some of the books about seeds and flowers, and write down questions you have about seeds and flowers as you read the books. I also want them to remember the story as they looks at these other books.
