Overview

The programme helps students to acquire the competence, confidence and skills necessary to enter any programme offered by a Swiss Education Group school.

It consists of a number of levels of intensive non-credit courses, which are delivered to small groups of students.

Students entering the programme are tested upon arrival using the Oxford Online Placement Test (OOPT) in order to place students in the appropriate class level.

The programme offers students a minimum of 20 hours of English instruction per week and covers the following subject areas:

› Introduction to College Studies› Structured Writing & Grammar› Learning Strategies & Study Techniques› Vocabulary Development & Intermediate Reading› Reading & Text Analysis› Communication Skills› Critical Thinking & Analysis› General Hospitality Knowledge

The English Foundation Programme, offered by Swiss Education Group, is an ideal way for students to strengthen their English language skills before commencing their academic studies at one of the Swiss Education Group schools.

Swiss Education Group TestingGuidelines

The Oxford Online Placement Test is the standard English language testing system used by Swiss Education Group, and is used to test all students who do not provide a valid English test result of the equivalent standard (TOEFL or IELTS).

Students who score 50 points and above on the OOPT are eligible to enter any undergraduate or postgraduate programme offered by Swiss Education Group. 60+ points (or equivalent) are required for direct entry to all master’s programmes. Please refer to the Language Level Requirements table for further information.

Students who have an OOPT score between 40 to 50 points are eligible to enter the English Foundation Programme at the appropriate level.

Applicants can take the OOPT in their home country with the assistance of their local school representative.

The administration of the test is handled by the Admissions Department at Hotel Institute Montreux, who will provide the password and login information.

Once the test results are received, the local school representative will advise the student whether they will need to enrol in the English Foundation Programme prior to entry into an undergraduate, postgraduate or master’s programme.

To take the OOPT (free of charge) contact your local school representative, or email: [email protected]
