1. The EvaluationAS Media 2. Beyond NoiseThrough out my evaluation I will have mentioned these key points1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?2. How does your media product represent particular social groups?3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?4. Who would be the audience for your media product?5. How did you attract/address your audience?6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product? 3. ConventionsMy magazine was designed from other magazines with a punk rock theme, which would be the base for my magazine. I wanted to make it different fromall the others, to challenge the latest conventions and give my magazinesomething unique and a different feel to it. I was hoping that it would surprisethe readers, intrigue them and make them become more interested right away.As you can see here my magazine hasused certain designs off of a Kerrangmagazine but have interpreted themin my own ways. I have used the eyecontact technique to draw in thereaders and make them feel that themagazine is directed to them. I havealso added a symmetrical barcode, and poster segment special whichwould act as dj vu and trigger aprofessional image to the reader. 4. RepresentationMy magazine is specific to a certain type of cliques in the teenage bracket. It isaimed at rocky type people who enjoy this type of music genre. To create amagazine using this type of genre is quite difficult as it has a very small targetaudience due to its specific clique it is in.It is obvious that the bands in the articles will be relatedto the genre but I have added other techniques to matchup my magazine to my target audience. I have taken apicture of a top band and for the photo shoot I allowedthem to wear their own clothes, which gives themagazine a more authentic look. It also lets the fansknow what their favourite artists styles are and howthey can keep up with the times. I have used a modernfont to tell the readers subconsciously that themagazine is up to date and new. 5. InstitutionsMy magazine would be most likely to be distributed in super markets andnews agents. This is because teenagers are most likely to browse the magazineaisle whilst shopping with their parents or just nipping to the store. I couldapply promotion techniques and they would get publicised quickly andeverybody who sees the advertisement will be intrigued. 6. AudienceMy target audience is a specific group of teenagers. This is called a nichemarket as it is aimed at a small segment of the market. As my audience is smallthe magazine has to have everything inside to draw the customers in. Mytarget audience was the base of near enough everything in my magazine. My masthead was the main thing that thetarget audience impacted as it is the firstthing the customer will see. It had to berelated to the genre and modernised to fitwith the target audience. The second thingthat the customer will look at is the image onthe front. Most people would only buy themagazine when their favourite band is on thecover, this is why kerrang will out only thetop bands on the front. This is to maximisepotential sales. 7. Attracting the AudienceI attracted the audience by using their styles in the magazine, things that theywould of used. I had to change most things to fit my target audience. My masthead was the main thing that the target audience impacted as it is the first thing the customer will see. It had to be related to the genre and modernised to fit with the target audience. Most teenagers live a happy and out going lives so it is near enough a given that laughterAt first I wasnt going to have this will follow. Thats why withinsegment in my magazine but the magazine I have createdteenagers are more likely to buy funny stories to put a smile onmagazines with posters in them.the readers face. This willThis is because it provides aencourage the reader to carrycollectors feel to it and keeps them on as he is happy and can evenbuys the magazine each week. impact on them buying the magazine again. 8. TechnologyTechnology has helped me to construct mymagazine really well. Firstly my ability to usefireworks has majorly improved. I am able to locateand use effects for example. In my media work Ihave used effects to make my magazine moreprofessional. At first I would not use the effect toolas much as I did not know exactly how well it canimprove my work but once I had used it and lookedat all the effects available my work then began toimprove. Secondly, for my front cover I hadexperimented with hue and saturation levels on themain images. I found a whole bunch of ways tochange each image on my front cover. Each good intheir own ways but I think I have found the perfectcombination. 9. Progress from Prelim
