Glorious Things of Thee Are Spoken

Evangelism with ExpectationWe have not made enough of the fact that evangelism has a great deal to do with what you expect God to do. If you raise your antennae as the day begins and ask God to make you an instrument for divine encounters during the day, it will happen – almost every time. Christians living in anticipation of being used by God are like cats on the lookout for mice. They never lose their focus. They seem to sleep with their eyes and ears alert. When you stay ready, you are actually living by the faith you claim to exercise!

Other AnnouncementsEveryday Evangelism – Everyday Evangelism (Ev2) builds on the Share Your Faith Work-shop held recently. Beginning this Tuesday, February 4, five teams will be spending time in preparatory devotions, classroom instruction and boots–on–the–ground training. Scripture verses, stories and transitions will strengthen each person’s ability to commu-nicate the Gospel message. The teams will meet at 6:30 each Tuesday evening for seven weeks. Pray for these teams as they will be sharing the Good News of Christ and His salvation with people in the Augusta area. If you desire to be on a team, please contact Glynn Dyer at 706–832–0830.

Youth Gathering – The Youth will meet this Wednesday from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. That evening a snack supper at 6:30 will be followed by a time of activities and music, then teaching and prayer led by Lee Self. All young people in sixth grade and above are encour-aged to attend these opportunities for fellowship and spiritual growth.

Adult Bible Study: Genesis – This Adult Bible Study meets the first and third Thursdays of each month at 7:00 p.m. at the Moncrief home, 2910 Mayfair Road in Augusta. All adults are invited to join the group this Thursday as they enjoy fellowship, food and a faith–strengthening study of the historical book of origins, Genesis.

Adult Bible Study: 1 Peter – This Adult Bible study meets the first and third Thursdays of each month at 7:00 p.m. at the Warren Jones home, 503 Thompkins Lane in Evans. Adults of Christ Church are invited to enjoy this practical study of 1 Peter, exploring the divine blueprint for understanding and experiencing genuine hope in God’s eternal plan and provision, while living in the real world of failure, danger and suffering.

Men’s Prayer Breakfast – All men of Christ Church are invited to enjoy a homemade breakfast this Friday at 7:00 a.m. in Covenant Hall. We will continue to explore “the infinite riches of the Godhead” through reflection on A. W. Tozer’s book, The Pursuit of God, before sharing in a time of prayer.

Pictorial Directory – The Pictorial Directory is being revised to include new members and updated information. If you would like an updated picture in the revision, please contact Glynn Dyer at 706–832–0830 or [email protected]. Updated information will be based on the recent database update sheets mailed to members and regular at-tenders. If you have not yet had the opportunity to return that sheet to the office, please do so at your earliest convenience. If you did not receive a database update letter, please call the church office, 706–210–9090.

Ministry OpportunitiesFor the Men: Ushers – Additional ushers are needed to assist during our Morning and Evening Worship services. If you are interested in serving in this way, please contact John Norkus, 706–860–4311, or Ed Russell, 706–860–4211.

For the Ladies: Visitation – All Christ Church ladies are invited to join a visitation min-istry to our shut–ins. Pairs of visiting ladies can enjoy a time of fellowship while bringing encouragement to members who are unable to participate in church gatherings. This is a wonderful opportunity to exhibit the love of Christ and requires the investment of only a few hours each year. For more information or to volunteer, please call Linda Jones at 706–447–2546 or Anne Bowen at 706–294–5071.

For all Adults: Resurrection Festival Choir – Please consider joining the Resurrection Festival Choir as Christ Church marks its tenth Easter celebration this spring! Choir re-hearsal dates are February 22; March 9 and 30; and April 16 and 19. Contact Mark Nab-holz to let him know of your interest ([email protected] or 706–306–1374).

WelcomeThank you for joining us in worship today! Our hope is that as the Word is preached, as prayers are lifted up, and as hymns and anthems are sung, you will be blessed by the corpo-rate worship of the triune God and will return to worship with us again soon. One of our Elders will be stationed near the piano following the service should you desire to know more about Christ Church, how to become a member here, or how to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Communion and Fellowship LuncheonToday we will observe the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper during Morning Worship. Following the service we will enjoy our monthly Fellowship Luncheon in Covenant Hall. Fried chicken will be provided for a donation of any amount. If you are visiting with us today, you are warmly welcomed to be our guest.

Communion OfferingAs is our custom with all undesignated cash offerings, those collected this morning will be used for the Diaconate Relief Fund. Designated gifts may also be made to the Diaconate Relief Fund by noting the designation on the memo line of your check or on the envelope of your cash contribution.

Evening WorshipCome, enjoy refreshment in God’s presence, as we gather with His people in worship this evening at 6:00. Pastor Jones will be preaching from 2 Samuel 20 a message entitled “The Fire of Rebellion,” addressing God’s warning and applying God’s wisdom to our everyday lives.

† The Confession of Faith ...................................................... The Nicene CreedI believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible;

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, begotten of His Father before all worlds; God of God; Light of Light; Very God of Very God; Begotten, not made; Being of one substance with the Father; by whom all things were made; Who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven; and was incarnate by the Holy Ghost of the Virgin Mary, and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried; And the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures; and ascended into heaven; and sitteth on the right hand of the Father. And He shall come again, with glory, to judge both the quick and the dead; Whose kingdom shall have no end.

And I believe in the Holy Ghost; The Lord and Giver of Life; Who proceedeth from the Father and the Son; Who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified; Who spake by the Prophets. And I believe one holy catholic* and apostolic Church. I acknowledge one baptism for the re-mission of sins. And I look for the resurrection of the dead; and the life of the world to come. Amen. (*universal)

† The Doxology (Trinity Hymnal No. 731) ........................................oldhundredth

Praise God from Whom all blessings flow;Praise Him, all creatures here below;Praise Him above, ye heavenly host:Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

The Prayers of Thanksgiving & Intercession ........................... The Rev. Jones The Private Confession of Sin

The Scriptural Assurance of Pardon (1 Peter 2:24)He Himself bore our sins in His body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By His wounds you have been healed.

The Lord’s Prayer Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For Thine is the Kingdom, and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

The Old Testament Reading ......................................Psalm 110:1–7 (page 509)

The Response ....................................................................................Isaiah 40:8 Pastor: The grass withers, the flower fades, People: But the word of our God stands forever.

The Offering and the Prayer of Dedication (Please record your attendance in the green Friendship Register.)

The Offertory Anthem ................................................. finlandia, arr. Wilberg

Be still my soul: the Lord is on thy side. With patience bear thy cross of grief or pain. Leave to thy God to order and provide; in ev’ry change He faithful will remain. Be still, my soul; thy best, thy heav’nly Friend through thorny ways leads to a joyful end.

Be still, my soul: thy God doth undertake to guide the future as He has the past. Thy hope thy confidence let nothing shake; all now mysterious shall be bright at last. Be still, my soul: the waves and winds still know His voice who ruled them while He dwelt below.

Be still, my soul: the hour is hast’ning on when we shall be forever with the Lord. When disappointment, grief and fear are gone, sorrow forgot, love’s purest joys restored. Be still, my soul: when change and tears are past, all safe and blessed we shall meet at last.

Scripture MemoryIf we are to wield the Sword in battle, we must wear it in our daily lives. Let us together, then, put on the Sword of the Spirit by memorizing and meditating upon this week’s Navigator verse: “He Who did not spare His own Son but gave Him up for us all, how will He not also with Him graciously give us all things?” (Romans 8:32; Navigator topic: Relying on God’s Resources)
