The Evolution of a Sign

Goal: To increase participation in the Neighborhood Association

Audience: Anyone who lives, works, or owns a business in the downtown neighborhood.

Message: It doesn't take much time to get involved and make changes in your community.

I decided on a color for the background so that the whole sign would stand out. I went with a soft green color so that it didn't stand out too much and take away from the message. I decided on a short message and pictures that signified something important in the neighborhood.

The First Sign

By this sign I realized that the pictures were much better when they weren't lined up along the bottom. I also added some questions that might grab the reader's attention. I also realized that by right aligning the questions they were in better proximity to the images and that helped relate the ideas in the pictures to the ideas in the questions.

And Then...

The main difference in this was the added black block of color for emphasis. It just made the whole sign look like it had a little more style. I also changed the text to Candara to give it a little more curvy, stylish look.

A New Look...

I messed around with colors and realized that a more unusual color scheme might grab attention a little better. I tried the brown and blue color scheme, but it had some problems because the brown colors can come out quite different depending on the screen that is used and sometimes it doesn't look very pretty.

...And Finally

On this final sign I added the text along the side with our neighborhood association name because I realized it wasn't very clearly anywhere on the sign. I also changed the color to a darker blue background with a light blue text and then used black accents to make it look cleaner. I also loosened up the images so they didn't look so stuffy. I changed up the font so that there were only two fonts instead of three competing for attention.
