• Since that time the mobile and short messaging industry has spiraled into a $585 billion company.

• Since the creation of SMS, some of the most popular social networks were developed.

• Using the same general concept as a text message, based on a set number of characters (140) the social network Twitter is known as the “SMS of the internet”

• Although texting is more convenient than talking on the phone or face to face with someone, it gets to a point where its very impersonal and causes a serious strain on our relationships.

• Makes conversations impersonal• Sometimes don’t go through• Messages arrive at the wrong time• Sometimes get sent to the wrong person• But the biggest negative of texting is texting

and driving.

TEXTING AND DRIVING• Has been statistically proven to be one of the top causes for

automobile accidents.• Over 1,600,000 accidents happen each year.• Studies show that texting while driving is the longest “eyes of

the road” driving activity and makes a crash up to 23 times more likely.

• 1 in 5 drivers (all ages) have confessed to surfing the web while driving.

• Studies show that texting while driving is about 6 times more likely to cause an accident than driving drunk, it’s the equivalent of drinking 4 beers and then getting behind the wheel.

• Most states in today’s society have banned texting while driving.

• In some states cell phone usage while operating a vehicle is prohibited all together (talking, texting, surfing the web)

• Over 800,000 drivers at any given moment are using their cell phones in some form or another while driving.

• The fine for texting while driving varies state to state sometimes even county to county but is a hefty fine ($50-$150)
