How are we doing?
• The residents seem very pleased with their programs and are actively promoting the site to future family medicine residents
• We have just learned of our 9 new residents for next July; 2 IMG’s & 7 CMG’s
![Page 8: The Family Medicine Teaching Centre Presentation to Full Dept. Meeting Thursday April 22, 2010](https://reader036.vdocument.in/reader036/viewer/2022062423/56814568550346895db239e3/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
• More Family Physicians are being drawn into the Teaching Centre as the number of Teaching Practices grows from 9 to10.
• The Faculty at WOHS are very engaged and excited about teaching at the hospital. The size of the specialist teaching faculty is growing to provide new teaching programs (i.e. geriatric, palliative care, IM outpatient, surgery)

What have we done since last year?
• Developed new biweekly educational rounds for the residents: ▫ Internal Medicine rounds; didactic and at the
bedside ▫ alternating with their PBSG sessions• Education Council meetings monthly with representation by
residents, tutors, primary preceptors and Education Assistant• Developed local awards for resident professionalism and Preceptor
of the year that will be presented at our Grad night in May • QA presentations will be presented locally this June at Dept. of FM
meeting at BCH/WOHS• Samps and SOO prep sessions for R2’s were developed • We are presenting AHD sessions locally and we are planning a
CBRT faculty development session for the fall of 2010; teaching ethics to be presented by Dr. Carrie Bernard
• We have many more of our faculty with appointments with McMaster University and we are tracking their teaching hours
![Page 10: The Family Medicine Teaching Centre Presentation to Full Dept. Meeting Thursday April 22, 2010](https://reader036.vdocument.in/reader036/viewer/2022062423/56814568550346895db239e3/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
What are our goals for the future?
• Grow to the full complement of residents and faculty• Continue to look for more formal teaching for the residents (rounds,
lectures, skills & drills, etc.)• More faculty development for faculty to continually improve their
teaching skills (we sent 4 physicians to FMF this past October 2009)• Grow our infrastructure and administration to support more
residents (eg. adding more on call rooms within BCH, hire an Admin backup for Jeannie)
• Work with MOH and politicians to try and help our IMG’s stay local when they finish as our community needs them and they can help our teaching centre continue to grow
• Site visits every 2 years with the teaching practices• Build a new Family Medicine Teaching Centre at the old Peel
Memorial Site which will have a Family Health Team with a focus on teaching residents and medical students. This initiative will grow the number of residents beyond our planned targets.
