Our New Home ... A New Beginning

On August 30th board members signed papers and received the keys

to our modest and sustainable new home. After 2½ years of deter-

mination, the hard work of the Relocation Committee came to frui-

tion. Our members of the Corporation Board spent much addition-

al time this summer to ensure a smooth transaction, and many of

our active members assisted in the initial move to our new home.

We are finally home, a new beginning.

There is still a lot of work to be done, but we are well on our way to not only settling into

our new facility, but also defining our identity at our new address. To the many people

involved we thank you for bringing it all together as we enter our new era in our council’s

history. I encourage our entire membership to come out to our various meetings to see the

new building and to get involved in existing programs and to help set up new ones. Now

that we have a home again we have a tremendous opportunity to enrich our council and

add to our already rich history. It is the members who truly make this council what it is

and we need everyone to make this happen.

The news of our move has also reached Bishop Crosby. He was genuinely excited and

asked for an invitation to see our new home requesting a visit. Honoured by this request,

our executive is now making plans to have Bishop Crosby visit on Saturday November

10th, where he will bless our new home. We will be updating our website and sending out

email alerts with more details as they become available. I hope to see many members

come out for this event.

Our Council began our fraternal year with our first council event. Our annual Golf Tour-

nament was on September 11th. Although it was a smaller event this year, it was still a

success. We were able to raise $2500 for the Children’s Wish Foundation. Many thanks to

all the participants, sponsors and organizers for making this the great event it is. Plans

are already under way for next year’s Tournament and we welcome anyone who would be

interested in getting involved.

Moving forward our council will continue its involvement with the Kitchener Firefighters

on October 13th, participating in their combat challenge. Plans have also begun for our

next Spaghetti Dinner, which will be held at St Joseph’s Parish on December 1. This

event we will be combining the fun of our past Feather Parties, so we hope to see many of

you attend as we raise funds for St Joseph’s.

This is really just the beginning. Now that we have a new home and a base of operation

we can be a more active and vibrant council again. It begins with you. It begins with an

idea, participation and activity. I invite all of you on this journey. Come out, share and be

part of it all.

Before we know it Christmas will be upon us. Since the next issue of the Echo will not be

out till the New Year, I want to extend my sincerest wishes to all members for a very Mer-

ry Christmas and a Happy New Year from my family to all of yours.

Morning departure to Tuscany Hills and stop to the Medieval town of Pienza, a lovely small village built on 13th Century by Pope

Pius II . Meet our local guide and walking tour. Continuing to the Abbey of St Antimo right on the Via Francigena , the famous

old road where the first pilgrims use to reach Roma during the Holy Years. Continuing to Montalcino and stop in a Winery area

for degustation of the famous Brunello Wein. Arrive in later afternoon in Chianti Area and accommodation in Park Hotel Chian-

ti.

14th May - Chianti Area. Excursions to Florence

A full day to discover the Renaissance city of Florence and his beauty. Drive to Florence about 1 hour and meet our local guide

and visit the Accademia Museum to admire the Davis of Michelangelo. Continuing walking in the old town till Ponte Vecchio

where the guide will leave you at a particular time to advise a meeting point with driver to return to Hotel

Dear Brothers,

Fall is approaching and we as a council have finally been able to reap what we have sown.

Two and one-half years of cultivation, and that produced a grand harvest, a new home for

our council. The Most Reverend David Douglas Crosby, OMI, Bishop of Diocese of

Hamilton will bless our new home on Saturday, November 10, 2012. It will definitely

be a family event.

I would like to thank all the Relocation Committee members: Brian Hughes, Dave Ober-

meyer, Brian Schmalz, Reinhart Schreiter and Gary Megaffin for their efforts over the last two and one-half years

to find a new home for our council. Prayers to St. Jude and St. Anthony were definitely heard.

Brothers, please come out and join your other brothers at the next Executive or General Meeting to explore our

new digs, rekindle some old friendships and make some new friends.

The up-coming 2013 Cars Draw campaign is quickly approaching and the success can mostly be attributed to the

commitment, dedication and hard work of all the volunteers that manned the mall and/or purchased their own

tickets. Your efforts totaled over 5,000 in ticket sales which resulted in over $8,000 raised for charity. As the in-

coming chair, I will continue to strive to carry on the tradition of strong sales and will solicit the assistance of for-

mer volunteers and new volunteers. If you wish to help with mall sales or just want a book of tickets for yourself

Finally, from me, my wife Lynda and my girls, Jennifer and Emma to your family, I wish you a very Merry Christ-

mas and a Happy New Year. Let’s keep the Christ in Christmas.

We now have our new home and I would like to thank the relocation committee for the many hours of their time looking at

buildings, it must have being frustrating at times. As we begin another year of charitable work helping our brother

knights and the many events in the community. I would like to request your help by volunteering your time or supporting

you council by buying tickets and attending council functions.

With a new Grand Knight and several new members on the council executive and corporation this will be a very interest-

ing year. For the many members who have told me when we get out building they will come out to support council, I en-

courage you to check the Web site for new and planned events also the Echo and attend the meetings for reports on events

or to get information. Help at your Church rose Sunday or sell tickets for the trip or car draw or see our upcoming events

your time is appreciated.

FIREFIGHTER COMBAT CHALLENGE — October 13

This is a fundraiser as well as a fun activity competing against the other K of C councils in our area. On Queen St in Kitch-

ener, this is a family event and your chance to wear fire fighter equipment enter your name with the council 1504 team or

help with the BBQ funds raised go to support the Every Day Heroes’, this group of Knights and Firefighters deliver toys,

ALARM FOR LIFE — starts November 12

Again this year Council will promote fire safety in October and November especially in the homes of seniors, the disabled

and families in the community who need a FREE fire alarm installed or the batteries replaced in there current unit. I have

two volunteers on my list but I need 6 more to make this a success. Contact me or the Grand Knight.

OUT OF THE COLD PROGRAM — November 21

November will see the start of the out of the cold program, this year again a group of Brother Knights will be helping to

serve food at St Matthews Church in Kitchener. Can you help for one night a month from 5:30 to 8:30, if I get 8 members

who will make this commitment then I will organize a second Out of the Cold Group supported by Council 1504, if you can

help contact me it runs from November to April?

ST. JOSEPH’S PARISH SPAGHETTI DINNER — Saturday, December 1

We want to be part of your parish and community, plan to attend Sts Joseph Parish Spaghetti Dinner at 6:30 p.m. All are

welcome, tickets are $12 each, or family children under 12 $25. Tickets are available at the church after mass or contact

me, 519-742-0908 to arrange delivery. This is a joint Parish and Council 1504 event with all proceeds from the dinner go-

ing to St Joseph’s Parish. Start your evening by attending the 5:00 mass at St Josephs Church, then come downstairs for

A New Beginning for Kitchener Knights of Columbus Council 1504

A new era has begun as Council 1504 held its first Executive Meeting on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at our new home

at 797 Guelph Street in Kitchener. It took the Relocation Committee, aided by members of The Corporation, two-

and-a-half years of searching for premises that would suit the needs for K of C activities. We believe our new residence

has all the features and characteristics that give Council 1504 the opportunity to return to full participation in its char-

itable endeavours. This property will also offer the prospect for families of K of C members to become involved and en-

joy outdoor activities and events in a park-like setting. The real estate transaction was successfully concluded and all

City Hall prerequisite approvals have been obtained. Kitchener Columbus Co-operative Inc. took possession of the new

property on Thursday, August 30, 2012. We are looking forward to the anticipated blessing of the premises by Bishop

Douglas Crosby O.M.I. who has expressed a personal interest in visiting Council 1504. General meetings now continue

at 797 Guelph Street, Kitchener at 7:30 p.m., every third Tuesday of the month. Your attendance and participation is

welcomed and encouraged as we eagerly look forward to a new era for Kitchener Knights of Columbus Council 1504.

A Big Thank You From Council 1504

For over 100 years the Kitchener Knights of Columbus have been known as an organization that was counted on to aid

those in need in our community. When Council 1504 began their search for a new home, it became apparent this task

required professional skill to aid the Knights in their quest. With the assistance of the Ted Scharf Royal Lepage Real

Estate office, and in particular, Mr. Terry Yates, commercial and residential property specialist, Council 1504 was suc-

cessful in purchasing their new premises. For over two years, Terry tirelessly worked on our behalf using his

knowledge and expertise. His guidance enabled the K of C to make the proper decisions that were in the best interests

On July 22nd our Assembly held its annual Summer Bar-B-Q at the home

of Sir Knight Chris Kleisath, PFN and his wife, Barb. On behalf of all Sir

Knights and their ladies who attended I would like to thank our hosts for a

fantastic time. We all enjoyed the food, refreshments, swimming pool and,

of course, the company.

What made it a special event also was that our new Faithful Friar, Father

Tom Moisan was able to attend. Father Tom is presently the pastor of St.

Teresa’s Church in Kitchener and a 25-year member of Bishop Reding Assembly in Oak-

ville, Ontario. We look forward to his spiritual guidance and words of wisdom in our up-

coming meetings this fall.

Speaking of meetings … Congratulations Council 1504 on the finding and purchasing of

your new home (797 Guelph Street) in Kitchener. When all gets settled, we as Father

Funcken Assembly 866 will be scheduling meetings there.

Dear Council Members,

I would like to begin by thanking the members and executive of Council 1504

for giving me such a warm welcome after moving here last year. I am excited to be on the executive as Advocate this year and look forward to taking on my

duties.

I have a few announcements regarding activities that I will be organiz-

ing/monitoring while in this position. First of all, we will be implementing some new rules at the General Meetings as guided by Robert's Rules of Order. As

per the Rules and Laws of the Order, we are given guidelines of how meetings are to be run and we will be implementing these rules beginning in the Sep-

tember General Meeting. I will be giving a presentation at this meeting of how

the new rules will work and what changes are being made.

I will also be contacting the parish pastors under council 1504 and making presentations at each parish regarding the Round Table Program. This is a

wonderful program which can help us assist in each of our parishes and help the pastors with their needs.

Lastly, I am organizing a pro-life rosary which will be said once a month at either the Grand River Hospital main site or the Freeport Health Centre. This is

a peaceful private prayer group and does not involve confrontation. Simply, we will meet once a month during a lunch hour to pray the rosary for the un-

born at the hospital. The exact times are not set yet but I will be letting the

council know as soon as the details are worked but everything should be roll-ing for October.

Council 1504’s Annual Joe Grygaski Golf Tournament

We held our annual Golf Tournament on Sunday, September 9th at Rebel Creek Country Club with 52 golfers participat-

ing. The sun shone most of the time but we did have some liquid sunshine for a couple of holes. To make an event like

this come together you need help, and I have to thank Donny Leyes, Gerry Kelly, Chris Pugh, Marty Ignor, Brian

Schmaltz, Brian Hughes Jr.(Sharp Bus Lines), Steve Kramer and Mike Delenardo for their help in getting prizes donat-
