Neil Jagger, founder of Edwin Jagger used the initial months of the company’s existence to design a range of handmade shaving accessories, enlisting some of Sheffield’s most skilled craftsmen to carry out work of the highest standard. His dedication and commitment to quality and craftsmanship handed down from one generation to another has resulted in an exclusive range of shaving equipment named in memory of his grandfather Edwin Jagger.

Silversmiths, buffers and polishers use carefully selected materials and superior craftsmanship to create flawless surfaces. Gillette® Fusion® ProGlide® Razor Head (F)

The Gillette® Fusion® ProGlide® is one of Gillette’s most popular blade systems. The five blades are positioned close together to evenly distribute the shaving force providing exceptional comfort and performance. This head has five blades protected by guards and lubrication strips, and a sixth blade on the rear edge for precision trimming.

Gillette® Fusion® ProGlide® blades are extremely popular and can be purchased in supermarkets, pharmacies and drugstores worldwide.

Edwin Jagger Razor Blade Systems

Edwin Jagger razors are constructed using only the finest materials. Each razor combines solid brass components and high grade polyesters polished for over 50 hours. Multiple precision die-cast components are laser etched and lathe turned before being finished with the very finest nickel and chrome plating to achieve a beautiful finish. Edwin Jagger offers a range of razor systems with handles available in an exciting array of colours and materials.

Gillette® Mach3® Razor Head (M3)

This blade head system guarantees a very close and safe shave with the revolutionary triple blade system produced by Gillette®. Three blades protected by guards and lubrication strips ensure smooth, comfortable shaving with one of the safest shaving systems available.

Double Edged Safety Razor Head (DE/ SR)

Originally introduced in the 1890’s and now extremely popular with experienced wet shavers. The flat stainless steel blade, sharpened on both edges, offers a simple but effective single cutting action similar to that of an open cut throat or straight razor. Traditional safety (double edge) blades are available from many pharmacies and drugstores worldwide.

Edwin Jagger Shaving Brush Fills

Why Use Badger Hair?Badger hair has been used for more than two centuries to make the best shaving brushes; in the past it was the preserve of the wealthy, now it is available to all. Badger hair is quality graded according to the appearance and softness of the hairs; the ascending classifications are pure, best, super and silver tip. The price of a brush will depend on the quality of the hair and the quantity used in the brush – it is an expensive resource and the highest standards of quality control are used when the hair is sourced. The hair is cleansed and sterilised to ensure that it is not only clean but performs to meet user expectations.

Badger hair is different to many types of fur – like human hair it absorbs water and it is this characteristic that makes badger hair perfect for shaving brushes. The lathering process whips hot water, soap and air into a warm foam that cleanses the skin and lubricates the path of the razor. Water is the key element in a good shave and the more a brush can hold, the better the lather and shave will be. The fine tips of the hairs help to make a smooth and creamy lather and the exceptional softness of badger hair cleanses the face gently, giving a comfortable and reliable shave.

There are six types of shaving brush hair:

The Collection and Sterilisation of Badger Hair All badger hair used by Edwin Jagger is from the species ‘Meles – Meles’ and originates from one common source. Currently badger hair is only available from China and this is the only certified source of the natural badger hair product. The hair is made available for sterilisation and grading for use in the shaving brush manufacturing industry. Edwin Jagger Limited is committed to ensuring a source of raw material and product that complies with all European and US ethical standards of trading.

This is the highest quality of all. The finely graded and sorted silver tip badger hair is the softest, rarest and most expensive badger hair. The natural untrimmed silver tips produce the highest quality shaving brushes available worldwide. The natural colouring of this hair is enhanced by careful hand grading and filling. The shape of our silver tip filled brushes is created by hand. The long hair from the neck of the animal is ultra soft, flexible, and will provide years of luxurious shaving.

Silver Tip (ST)

This good quality badger hair is generally regarded as the benchmark standard of handmade shaving brush manufacturers. The hair is harvested from the badger’s pelt and although individual hairs may vary between shades of brown and grey the colour is generally darker than silver tip and super badger fills. It will produce a luxurious lather when used with a good quality shaving cream or soap.

Best Badger (BB)

These fine synthetic fibre fills have been developed to offer an excellent alternative for those who do not wish to use a product filled with real animal hair. The shaving performance is very similar to badger hair and will produce a luxurious lather when used with a good quality shaving cream or soap.

Synthetic Silver Tip Fibre (SYNST)

This is the finer hair from the back of the badger, it is longer and softer than ‘best’ badger and, because it is finer, requires more hairs to fill a brush. This high quality grade of badger hair is only used in hand filled brushes. Visually, the super badger bundle displays a distinctive black band capped with pure white tips and is presented in a natural fan shape, using the natural hair ends to create the shape and softness. The shape of Edwin Jagger super badger filled brushes is created by hand. We do not trim the hairs to create the overall badger bundle shape, a time saving method used by some other suppliers.

Super Badger (SB)

This badger hair, grey in colour, is the manufacturer’s benchmark quality for machine made shaving brushes. It will produce a fine lather when used with a good quality shaving cream or soap. This badger hair feels slightly firmer, but is far superior to a bristle shaving brush. This brush fill comes as standard on our Diffusion Range brushes.

Pure Badger (81)

Stiffer synthetic black fibres, with dark brown and white colourings, resemble natural pure badger hair. This quick drying shaving brush offers enhanced durable performance with unlimited use.

At Edwin Jagger we understand and share the environmental concerns of our customers and place great emphasis on selecting the very best natural ingredients for our range of hydrating pre shave lotion, traditional hard shaving soaps, premium shaving creams and aftershave lotions. It is of paramount importance to us that we offer our customers shaving products that are both safe and effective for the skin and at the same time environmentally friendly. Our products comprise 99% natural components, many derived from organically cultivated plants, replacing synthetic substances and mineral oils.

The luxurious lathering properties of our creams and soaps are enhanced by subtle natural extracts of Aloe Vera, Sandalwood and Limes & Pomegranate for a wonderfully smooth shaving experience. Wherever possible the natural ingredients are obtained using energy efficient means. Our supreme quality Indonesian Sandalwood oil, like many essential oils, is extracted using a water steam distillation process while the natural gel used for the Aloe Vera products is squeezed from the plant using a press. All Edwin Jagger products are paraben and paraffin free.

The Edwin Jagger PPS ProgramThe PPS (Pick, Pack & Ship) Program is designed to speed up product delivery times to Edwin Jagger customers. All products included in the program are clearly marked in our catalogue and price list with the prefix PPS.

All products in the program are hand-finished and pre-packed in convenient case pack sizes, typically 2 or 3. The PPS program allows for a quicker, more efficient dispatch times.

Ideally all PPS products should be ordered in multiples of 2 or 3 to match their PPS case pack size. The case pack size is detailed in the Edwin Jagger price list. Single units can be ordered however ordering in PPS pack quantities means that you will receive a discounted price.

FAQs Which products are sold in packs of 2 or packs of 3?

• 2 unit PPS packs: All Edwin Jagger hardware products for example 3 or 4-piece shaving sets, razors and brushes, shaving bowls and travel accessories.

• 3 unit PPS packs: All Edwin Jagger software products for example pre shave, shaving soap and shaving cream, aftershave lotion, beard oil, beard wash and moustache wax.

What does a PPS case pack look like?

• A PPS case pack is a white outer carton. This provides product protection during delivery and storage. PPS packs also make product storage easier. They are clearly marked on the outside with the product code, a unique barcode and the quantity of the contents.

Why aren’t all products in the PPS program?

• The PPS program is designed to ensure our most popular ranges and most frequently ordered products are available for priority picking and shipping. The PPS program can be used to support rapid stock and inventory replenishment. Ordering non-PPS products may lead to a longer delivery time as many non-PPS products are from the handmade premium range requiring specialised hand skilled manufacturing processes.

Can I order PPS items in single units as an alternative to ordering pack sizes of 2 and 3?

• Yes. You may order single product units using the non PPS code. Individual units are not part of the PPS program so delivery times may be longer. PPS products in pre-packed cartons are part of an efficient supply process that generates cost savings for all our direct trade customers.

Why is there a price difference between the same PPS and non-PPS products?

• By selling in multiples of 2 or 3 we are able to offer a discount on the PPS packs.

We do sell very beautiful and luxurious products so we have an obligation to deliver them in pristine condition and consequently our product packaging is very smart and exclusive. We stipulate to suppliers that new packaging should be produced using a minimum 50% recycled material.

We re-cycle damaged and unusable paper, card, plastic and glass.

We try to keep our systems paperless and will strive to continually improve our environmental systems and procedures. Whenever we introduce new products we consider their impact on the environment and on our customers.
