Amazing Grace, How Can It Be? ........................ Baynard L. Fox
My Saviour’s Love .................................................. Lloyd Larson
In Praise to the Lord THE RINGING OF THE CHIMES
A three-fold ringing of three signifies the presence of the triune God: Creator, Christ, and Holy Spirit.
*LIGHTING OF THE CANDLES
*PROCESSIONAL HYMN #345 When Morning Gilds the Skies LAUDES DOMINI
This litany of praise to Christ was translated from an anonymous German text praising God for natural wonders. But the hymn celebrates more than that. It calls us to praise God all day long. "Eternal bliss" is the reward of those who praise him and "the powers of darkness" flee in fear when we worship God.
*OPENING PRAYER Rev. Jim Earnest
*CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE #346 Majesty MAJESTY
Majesty, worship His majesty.
Unto Jesus be all glory, honor, and praise.
Majesty, kingdom authority flow from His throne,
unto His own; His anthem raise.
So exalt, lift up on high the name of Jesus.
Magnify, come glorify Christ Jesus, the King.
Majesty, worship His majesty;
Jesus, who died, now glorified, King of all kings.
*WELCOME & PASSING THE PEACE Dr. Rodney Kennedy
(Please register your attendance by filling out a yellow card from the pew rack and placing it in the offering bag this morning.)
We are invited to greet our nearest neighbors, extend our hand, and greet one another in the name of Christ.

Reading & Proclaiming God’s Word
OLD TESTAMENT LESSON Pat Rousseau
Genesis 32:22-31: The same night he got up and took his two
wives, his two maids, and his eleven children, and crossed the ford of the Jabbok. He took them and sent them across the stream, and likewise everything that he had. Jacob was left alone; and a man wrestled with him until daybreak. When the man saw that he did not prevail against Jacob, he struck him on the hip socket; and Jacob's hip was put out of joint as he wrestled with him. Then he said, "Let me go, for the day is breaking." But Jacob said, "I will not let you go, unless you bless me." So he said to him, "What is your name?" And he said, "Jacob." Then the man said, "You shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel, for you have striven with God and with humans, and have prevailed." Then Jacob asked him, "Please tell me your name." But he said, "Why is it that you ask my name?" And there he blessed him. So Jacob called the place Peniel, saying, "For I have seen God face to face, and yet my life is preserved." The sun rose upon him as he passed Penuel, limping because of his hip.
Leader: Hear what the Spirit is saying to the Church. People: Thanks be to God!
*THE GOSPEL LESSON Rev. Kay Davis-Dudding
Leader: The Gospel of the Lord according to Matthew. People: Praise be to you, O Christ.
Matthew 14:13-21: Now when Jesus heard this, he withdrew from
there in a boat to a deserted place by himself. But when the crowds heard it, they followed him on foot from the towns. When he went ashore, he saw a great crowd; and he had compassion for them and cured their sick. When it was evening, the disciples came to him and said, "This is a deserted place, and the hour is now late; send the crowds away so that they may go into the villages and buy food for themselves." Jesus said to them, "They need not go away; you give them something to eat." They replied, "We have nothing here but five loaves and two fish." And he said, "Bring them here to me." Then he ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven, and blessed and broke the loaves, and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds. And all ate and were filled; and they took up what was left over of the broken pieces, twelve baskets full. And those who ate were about five thousand men, besides women and children.
Leader: For the Word of God in scripture, for the Word of God among us, for the Word of God within us.
People: Thanks be to God.
*THE FELLOWSHIP HYMN #469 Put Peace into Each Other’s Hands
ST. COLUMBA
This hymn was born when lyricist Fred Kaan watched people go forward to receive Communion: they shaped their hands like a cradle to receive the bread. This poignant, classic text will touch the hearts of all who hear it.

Adults with Aging Parents Class August 12
Join with Rev. Kay Davis-Dudding on Tuesday, August 12th at 6:30 at the
church for this class. If family relationships are fairly good and everyone is in good health, you may be tempted to delay thinking about the care aging relatives may need. You might find yourself pretending the current situation will last forever. If relationships are filled with pain, you may find it hard to imagine providing care for someone who was, perhaps, not very good at providing care years ago when you needed it. Let's, together, look at how we might give and receive help, and at resources outside ourselves that can be useful to you and to your older relatives. Class members are good at sharing their issues and experiences and providing support for others.
