THE WORSHIP OF GOD June 17, 2018 Fourth Sunday after Pentecost Eleven O’clock

WE PRAISE GOD Chiming of the Hour †Prelude - “Processional of Joy” ...................................................................................... Hal Hopson

Kyle Ballantine, organist

Welcome and Litany for Father’s Day ................................................................... Rev. Josh Brewer

Thank you, God, for all those who have loved us dearly – For all parental figures in our lives that showed us your love, we give thanks.

Thank you, God, for those who have stepped into the role when others were absent – For step-fathers and uncles, brothers and caregivers, teachers and coaches who made a difference in our lives, we give thanks.

Thank you, God, for our fathers and grandfathers – For all those who have mirrored your love in our lives, we give thanks.

We lift up to you, O God, all those who have had difficult relationships with their fathers – For those who were harmed by their fathers and others who should have loved them, we pray, we cry out, and we seek justice.

We lift up to you, O God, those fathers who have gone on – For those who are grieving, for those who feel an absence on this day, we pray.

(The text is by Rev. Mindi Welton-Mitchell.)

Invocation .............................................................................................................. Dr. Tom McCann †*Hymn No. 469 - “Morning Has Broken” ............................................................................ bunessan *Affirmation of Faith

We believe in the Triune God: Creator, Christ, and Holy Spirit, who calls us to abandon our pride and to embrace people in every condition.

We believe that we must feed those who are hungry; give drink to those who are thirsty; clothe the naked; and address the needs of the sick, the imprisoned, the stranger, or whomever we encounter.

We believe that whatever we do for one of God’s children, we are doing for God. If we should turn our backs or harden our hearts to the cries of any of God’s children, we have then rejected the very God who has redeemed us. But if we minister in God’s name we shall receive eternal life, prepared for those who honor God with their deeds as well as their words.

*Gloria Patri No. 579

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be,

World without end. Amen. Amen.
