Structural reminders

Introduction

As an opening invitation, establish the particular circumstances of the passage you are analyzing.

Avoid starting your paper in a “prompt dependent” fashion.

Conclusion options

Respond personally to the text and/or to the message of the passage itself

Maybe answer this question: To what extent has your style analysis increased your appreciation of the work as a whole? To the speaker of the passage?

Body

Build your paper from weakest argument to strongest

Include the examples you are using to conduct the style analysis (place individual words in italics when discussing a pattern of diction)

Nothing magical about having 3 body paragraphs

REMEMBER your title page is the passage itself

A clean copy

Header with your name, the due date of the paper, and your class period

You do not need this for Friday, but you do for Tuesday when the final draft is due.
