THE FIRST POINT OF CARE TESTING WITH QUANTITATIVE IGE RESULTS
RESPIRATORY ALLERGY PANEL ON THE ABIOSCOPE®
The World Health Organization estimates that over 20% of the world population suffers from allergic disease, such as allergic asthma and allergic rhinitis.1
Allergic rhinitis causes inflammation and irritation in the eyes, nose and the upper airway, leads to running or blocked nose, itching throat, sneezing and watery eyes.3
Allergic asthma primarily affects the lower airways, and induces symptoms including wheezing, chest tightness, shortness of breath and persistent coughing.3
Common triggers of respiratory allergic diseases include pollens, house dust mites, molds and animal dander 2
Nearly 35% of respiratory allergy sufferers experience both allergic rhinitis and asthma7
An estimated 500 million people are affected by allergic rhinitis worldwide including

From 2013 to 2023, the total prevalent cases of allergic rhinitis in seven major markets (7 MMs) will increase from 123 million to 125 million.6
In 2013, total prevalent cases of allergic rhinitis in 5 EUs were 49 million, 39% of the 7 MMs. 6
In 2023, the US will have the highest number of allergic rhinitis with 39 million total prevalent cases, followed by Japan with 36 million.6
Figure 2 | Total prevalent cases of allergic rhinitis in 7MMs
Patients with allergic rhinitis averaged 3 additional doctor visits, 9 more prescriptions filled, and $1500 in incremental healthcare costs in 1 year than similar patients without allergic rhinitis.8
The duration and severity of allergic rhinitis have a direct influence on the development of allergic asthma and the likelihood of recovering from it.9
In the US, about 80% of children and about 60% of adults have allergic asthma, about 10 people per day die from asthma.10

Total Prevalent Cases of Allergic Rhinitis
The respiratory allergy panel on the Point-of-Care abioSCOPE® for the first time quantifies specific IgE levels in 5 minutes with just a fingerstick.
Molecules are forced into a nanochannel, limiting the travel distance to a few hundreds of nanometres and reducing incubation time to 2 minutes.
A washing step is not needed as the surface-to-volume ratio is extremely high, and non-specific background is negligible.

Figure 5 | Overall percent agreement calculated in function of diagnostic made by allergy experts’ panel
IgE assays reached an agreement of 94.6% on the abioSCOPE® vs. reference laboratory method14
