DEVELOPMENT UPDATE

“My Dad is a Professional Beggar” was the response I overheard my youngest son giving once when asked “What does your fatherdo?” My first thought was “Wait, I don’t like that picture. My work is more noble than that!” But, I had to admit, that is the picture manypeople have of Fundraisers. Unfortunately, I didn’t have a good “comeback” for my son’s assessment of my work.

About a year later, during a grant writing workshop, I had my answer. The presenter challenged us: “You must change your thinking aboutyour work. You’re not going around with one hand out, begging for money, and the other hand ready to grab and twist the “victim’s” arm.You are a bridge. You connect needs with dreams. Someone has a dream to solve a challenge or need facing society. Fundraisersconnect people who have a dream to help, with those needs. This turns needs into opportunities and dreamers into donors, and in theprocess, great good is accomplished for society. Never forget, you’re a bridge.”

What a difference! Who wouldn’t want to be a Bridge rather than a Beggar? And who wouldn’t get excited about giving people with heartsand passions to change society for the better opportunities to accomplish those dreams?

Join me., We need more Bridges and more Dreamers so that we can build this new school for our children. Remember: “Your FaithGuides their Future”!

Give me a call: Dan Tilstra, 269-208-1111 or email [email protected]. I’m always ready to listen.
