Dear Parents, Happy Thanksgiving Season! Trusting that your week has been blest and spirit filled! Mr. Gaines & I have had the privilege of attending Southern Union Departmental year end meetings in Myrtle Beach to represent FLEC and the Florida Conference throughout the week. We have had an opportunity to hear many reports of the wonderful things that are happening in all of our conferences within our Union. In addition, we have had some amazing worship meetings in the mornings. The most exciting thing that has happened during the meetings is that our application for FLEC to be recognized as a Southern Union EDGE School of Excellence has been accepted. As such, a visiting committee from the Southern Union will be on our campus on February 2, 2010 to assess our program. While we all know that thanks to God and His leading FLEC is a special place, now we will be able to be recognized for it. Please continue to pray for FLEC so that God’s presence will be evident upon our children on a daily basis. LOST AND FOUND

We presently have a lot of lost and found items here at the school. It is the school’s policy that at the end of each month all lost andfound items will be donated to the Forest Lake Church Thrift Store. November 20th will be our next delivery. If you have lost an item, please come and claim that item as soon as possible. If you have any questions, please feel free to stop by the office.

NEW AFTERCARE "FRIDAY" HOURS

Due to daylight savings time, Aftercare hours will be changing. Effective NOW through March 5, 2010, Aftercare will be closing at 5:15p.m. ON FRIDAY’S ONLY. Please make arrangements to pick up your child by 5:15 p.m.

This prayerful decision was made to allow time to prepare for Sabbath observance. While our goal is to honor this special day of theweek that God bestows upon us and to receive His blessings, we recognize that this may present a hardship for some families. Pleasedo not hesitate to contact us if our new hours present a problem for you. As always, we are here for you.

FOOD ALLERGIES

Over the last two weeks, we have dealt with reactions to food allergies. On behalf of our students with food allergies, we are requestingthat if you are hosting, sponsoring a party or sending food to school that you label foods that contain nuts, peanut oil or peanut butter. Asa school family, we have put controls in place to continue to make FLEC a safe place for all our students.

HELP OUR TEACHERS!

Many classrooms are being disrupted between 2:45-3:00 p.m. and we need your help. It is our desire for teachers to utilize class timeeffectively and would like to request that disruptions be kept to a minimum. Also, if you would like to see a teacher we ask that you waituntil after dismissal, call or e-mail for an appointment. The FLEC Receptionist is happy to deliver messages, lunches, books and papersto your child. Thank you so much for your cooperation in this matter.

DISMISSAL

Remember school is out at 3:15 pm. Please note that it is disruptive to learning when parents come to theclassroom door at 2:50 or 3:00 to get their child. Please be patient and wait till the class is dismissed, youcan meet your child as the class leaves the classroom. Thank you for understanding and helping theteachers utilize those last minutes of the day.

Choose a Lane - Please remember to be extremely careful and patient when driving on campus. As youturn into the school drive please use the right lane if you are picking up from behind the school (5ththrough 8th grader riders) and the left lane if you are picking up children in front of the school (Pre-Kthrough 4th grade and multi-grade riders). Remember to be considerate; yield to your neighbor andpractice patience. Safety is our number one concern.

Rain Dismissal – We continue to tweak our rain dismissal procedure. Our goal is to safely completedismissal in 30 minutes or less from when the dismissal bell rings. Be assured that your child will not besent to Aftercare as long as there are still cars in line to pick-up.

H1N1 PROTOCOL

Page 4: The FLEC Flyer | November 20, 2009 | Week 14

Parents, please refer to our website for instructions regarding the H1N1 protocol. Remember that your child MUST be symptom free for24 hours before returning to school.

FLU PREVENTION

Flu season has started early this year and with swine flu being such a prominent news story do you ever wonder what FLEC is doing toprevent the flu? Be assured that FLEC Administration and staff takes flu prevention very serious. In consult with several medical experts,FLEC Administration has adopted the following practices:

Posters at every sink to show and encourage good hand washing techniques. (Make hand washing fun and effective, sing “HappyBirthday” twice to encourage children to wash for the recommended 20 seconds)Hand sanitizer placed in every classroom and many other convenient places around our school. (CDC recommends a minimum of60% Ethyl Alcohol in hand sanitizer, FLEC uses hand sanitizer with a 63% Ethyl Alcohol base.)Classrooms are thoroughly cleaned every day. If a student shows signs of the flu that classroom receives a deeper cleaning withan industrial sanitizer that includes every desk, chair, keyboard lunchbox storage area and the nearby bathrooms and drinkingfountains.Frequent cleaning, through-out the day our doors, drinking fountains, sinks phones for student use, are wiped down withdisinfectant.Flu Shots are encouraged.

DEVELOPMENT REPORT

SQUARE FOOT CAMPAIGN UPDATE

The lists are in, the letters have been addressed, and now we wait and pray for hearts to be impressed to help sponsor this worthyproject.

Thanks to all you parents who worked with your children to supply the names for us to send appeals to. We know you are busy and havehad lots of fundraising requests. It is our prayer though, that everyone will see the vision of adequate buildings and plenty of space for allour children to come to FLEC and receive a Christ-centered education.

Each week, as return envelopes arrive, we will keep track of each square foot sponsored. Just before Christmas Break, the classroomwith the most square foot sponsors will be awarded a “Square Pizza Party”.

If you haven’t sent a list in and would like to still give your children a chance to do their part in the campaign, find the list and fill it out withat least 5 names, or get one from the FLEC front desk. We still have some Klondike ice cream bars!

As always, we truly appreciate you and your children and what you do in support of this school.
