Dear Parents,

Greetings! Over the lasttwo weeks, I have had theopportunity to worshipwith students in gradesPreK, K, 7th and 8th. Thetheme has been aboutprayer and it is amazingto see how God hasanswered the prayers ofour children, time and timeagain. They have reliedon prayer, trusted God inprayer, and developed astrong prayer journeybecause of their faith andtrust in God.

God is indeed faithful so Iencourage you to, pleas:take the time over the

weekend to share with your child how God has answered your prayers recently and how Godis real in your life. Also ask your child to share their answered prayers or things that they arecurrently praying for. Finally, take the time to pray with your child.

Dissertation Release Time: As I complete my doctorial journey, (projected completion time,spring 2010) our school Board has been supportive and generous with release time forwriting. The dates are as follows:

September 14 – 18, 2009October 12 – 16, 2009November 30 – December 3, 2009January 4 – 8, 2010February 1 – 5, 2010March 8 – 10, 2010April 1 – 2, 5 – 7, 2010May 3 – 7, 2010

CAREER DAY - SUNDAY, OCTOBER 4, 2009

We have children with many diverse talents and want to open their eyes to all the possibilities in theirlives. Please help us by volunteering to share information about your career. The more career options thatare presented to our students the more dreams and goals can be considered. HELP OUR TEACHERS!

Many classrooms are being disrupted between 2:45-3:00 and we need your help. It is our desire for teachers to utilize class timeeffectively and would like to request that disruptions be kept to a minimum. Also, if you would like to see a teacher we ask that you waituntil after dismissal, just call or e-mail for an appointment. The FLEC Receptionist is happy to deliver messages, lunches, books andpapers to your child. Thank you so much for your cooperation in this matter.

DISMISSAL

Remember school is out at 3:15 pm. Please note that it is disruptive to learning when parents come to theclassroom door at 2:50 or 3:00 to get their child. Please be patient and wait till the class is dismissed, youcan meet your child as the class leaves the classroom. Thank you for understanding and helping theteachers utilize those last minutes of the day.

Choose a Lane - Please remember to be extremely careful and patient when driving on campus. As youturn into the school drive please use the right lane if you are picking up from behind the school (5ththrough 8th grader riders) and the left lane if you are picking up children in front of the school (Pre-Kthrough 4th grade and multi-grade riders). Remember to be considerate; yield to your neighbor andpractice patience. Safety is our number one concern.

Rain Dismissal – We continue to tweak our rain dismissal procedure. Our goal is to safely completedismissal in 30 minutes or less from when the dismissal bell rings. Be assured that your child will not besent to Aftercare as long as there are still cars in line to pick-up.

FLU PREVENTION

Flu season has started early this year and with swine flu being such a prominent news story do you ever wonder what FLEC is doing toprevent the flu? Be assured that FLEC Administration and staff takes flu prevention very serious. In consult with several medical experts,FLEC Administration has adopted the following practices:

Posters at every sink to show and encourage good hand washing techniques. (Make hand washing fun and effective, sing “HappyBirthday” twice to encourage children to wash for the recommended 20 seconds)Hand sanitizer placed in every classroom and many other convenient places around our school. (CDC recommends a minimum of60% Ethyl Alcohol in hand sanitizer, FLEC uses hand sanitizer with a 63% Ethyl Alcohol base.)Classrooms are thoroughly cleaned every day. If a student shows signs of the flu that classroom receives a deeper cleaning withan industrial sanitizer that includes every desk, chair, keyboard lunchbox storage area and the nearby bathrooms and drinkingfountains.Frequent cleaning, through-out the day our doors, drinking fountains, sinks phones for student use, are wiped down withdisinfectant.Flu Shots are encouraged.

Flu Shots are encouraged. We have arranged with Centra Care to offer flu shots for our staff, students and families. The flu shots will begiven on October 12, at FLEC. We are happy to offer these shots at a reduced price of $18 per person. Pre-registration is highlyrecommended as this will secure your time slot at the event and will expedite the flow of traffic. All payments will be collected at time ofservice, the accepted forms of payment are cash, personal check (made payable to: Florida Hospital Centra Care), MasterCard, Visa,Discover, and American Express.

LOWER YOUR CELL PHONE BILL

The FLEC Handbook states: “Cell phones must be powered off during school hours: 7:50 a.m. – 3:15 p.m.Monday – Thursday, and 7:50 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. on Fridays. They must not be visible during class, in the halls,or anywhere on campus during school hours.”

Starting this Thursday, October 1, 2009, there will be a fine for any cell phone visible during the school day.Students can use school phones with teacher’s permission and parents may leave messages with the frontoffice if they need to reach their student.

VPK

We still have several openings in our VPK program. This is a wonderful opportunity for your four year old to experience learning in aChristian school environment. We are one of the few schools that offer a full day VPK program. Please contact the Registrar at407-862-7688, ext. 221 for more information.

VARSITY SOCCER SEASON

Varsity Soccer season is off to a great start! Pre-Season games and regular season games will be played every Tuesday and Thursdayfrom 4:30-6:30pm. Teams and schedules will be updated weekly. If you have a young boy or girl in grades 1st -5th who is interested in training in ourSports Jujitsu Program at FLEC on Fridays at 1:45, please take a moment topre-register them to secure your place today. All participants MUST be able to followdirections and work well with others. As soon as we have 12 students registered withall three forms filled out, we will launch the new program. Pre-registration cost $25.
