The Naked Roommate: For Parents Only

Tips for your first visit/Parents' Weekend:

At Florida State Parents' Weekend hasalways been one of my most memorable events.Parents' Weekend is a time for parents to visit andsee their student interact in their newenvironment and home away from home. Thisyear's Parents' Weekend is set for October 4-5,during the FSU vs. Maryland football game. As Iam about to have my last parents' weekend let melend a few tips to the parents who are making thetrip for the first time. Tag Alongs: If your Student's roommate's orfriend's parents do not attend Parents' Weekend,a nice suggestion would be to include them insome of your events. They will love this, becausenot only will it make them feel better about beingalone, it will make them feel like they are a part ofyour family for a short weekend!note: parents you do not have to bring them everywhere, tellyour child you want to have dinner (or etc.) alone and theroommate will be more than understanding.

Early Mornings (see pg. 183): Many collegestudents want to sleep in, do not be offended ifyour child would rather sleep than go out tobreakfast. Plan your meeting time for a little later

resources for multicultural and civility education). In an effort to meetthis function, Family Connection will host both a silent auction and a

live auction during Parents' Weekend. The Silent Auction will takeplace on Friday, October 4th from 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m. in MooreAuditorium Lobby before President Baron speaks. The silent auction

will be followed by an actual live auction on the steps of MooreAuditorium at approximately 4:45 p.m. immediately following PresidentBaron's speech. We would like to formally invite you to this event as aFamily Connection Member. We are currently working on publicizing

this event and its wonderful cause, as well as obtaining AuctionPartners, (monetary donations made on behalf of the event go directly

to the Family Fund) and items to auction.

We invite your participation in one of the following ways:1. Become an Auction Partner

2. Provide items or services to be auctioned off during the auction3. Participate at the event to auction for items and services for you and

your student

Join Family Connection at the Garnet & Gold Fall Auction to supportstudent services and programs. Last year we raised around $8,000.00to help support student services. Items will include FSU memorabilia, vacation packages, themed gift baskets, gift cards to local businesses,

and more! Please contact [email protected] for more information or if you

would like to donate an item or have your business become an AuctionPartner.

and maybe even surprise them with breakfast to

go. Discuss your Plans (see pg. 183): Your child maynot want to hang out with you the entire time youare here and this is not because they do not loveyou, but because they still want to partake in theireveryday lives and routines. Discuss with yourstudent when and what you guys want to do. Theuniversity has many planned activities you can signup for at

union.fsu.edu/pw or you can explore Tallahasseeon your own, at your student's lead.
