The FP100 is a fast positioning probe integrated with analytical probing equipment to meet a number of test applications where individual probe movement must be quick and accurate. Two point testing applications on packaged devices, PC boards or wafers often requires fast movement between probe contacts to complete the overall test in a reasonable amount of time. ESD two point tests, open/short test and continuity test all have short term test times between two points. However, these tests often have a large number of contacts that all need to be verified. The FP-100 accommodates these requirements.

The FP-100 has an X-Y range of 100mm which accommodates individual die on a wafer, most packaged circuits and many PC boards. The 12mm Z range allows probing of various topography as found on PC boards loaded with chips and devices. The FP-100s bolt onto the probe station to assure stability and are driven by linear precision motors with 0.5µ resolution.

A variety of probe holders easily attach to the swivel probe mount. The swivel mount provides ±45 of adjustment that then locks into place. Most Signatone probe arms and APT probes mount directly into the fixture and are locked in place with a thumbscrew allowing probe tips to be changed easily. Also, option is available for mounting a G-S-G probe head with planarization.

The FP-100 is driven by the Maxymus controller. The Maxymus controller will drive up to two FP-100s and may be linked with another Maxymus controller for driving a total of 4 FP-100s. The controller fits into a 19” rack. An Ether.net port communicates with the outside world.

Signatone’s controller package includes powerful software and a joystick option. The joystick features precision dial control that will drive the probes like a manual positioner with 0.5 micron resolution. The control software includes many features to make complex probing tasks easy.

Some of these features include-

- Quick Align assures the probe(s) are moving squarely with the DUT

- Auto Array With a step size and overall size defined, automatically calculates all points to be probed, avoiding probe dueling or collisions

- Programed Points Allows defining X-Y-Z positions in any sequence and name the probe site as well. Programs may then be run automatically or manually.

- Point & Shoot Moves selected probe to the position pointed to with the mouse on the video image.

- Follow Scope The microscope is used to find the target, the probe is then called to that position.

Of course, X-Y-Z coordinates may be entered and executed through an interface as well. Motion commands may be issued through a GP-IB interface to the software. Signatone has a variety of software packages available depending on the probing system being integrated. The recommended probing system is the CheckMate 240 or 250 with software and an optional joystick control system for smooth and accurate positioning of the device, microscope and FP-100 automated probes.

The FP-100 probe mounting arm pivots up or down allowing for adjustments to be easily made to accommodate many different device dimensions and shapes. The length of the probe arm has an easy slide, adjustable length and will hold all of Signatone’s probe tip holders and SCA probes.
