Bulletin for March 2019
March, 2019
Dear Parish Family,
We kick off the month of March with Ash Wednesday on the 6th. We have a number of services. Please check the bulletin, the website, and our parish bulletin boards for times and locations. During the Lenten Season, Father Jude will be here presenting on Roman Catholic Theory – Revelation and Salvation in Other World Religions.
We will have Stations of the Cross every Friday night beginning on March 8th, along with Fish Fry for Life from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. I will be doing a visual reflection of the Stations of the Cross on March 8th. We have an addition on Tuesday evenings of a 5:30 mass in Novus Ordo Latin, celebrated by Monsignor Nathaniel. This will be every Tuesday evening during Lent.
It is with sadness that we will be bidding farewell to Father Rudy Esmero. Father Rudy has generously served our Parish for 7 years and has been transferred to continue ministry in Los Banos. He will be greatly missed. I would like to invite everyone to join us March 2nd and 3rd as we gather after each mass in the Youth Center for a reception. Please keep him in your prayers. Also, Father Joseph will be leaving for 5 weeks to visit his family during the month of March and April. Since we will not be receiving a new associate pastor and Father Anton will be covering the hospitals, know that there will be a shortage of priests.
Thank you for your patience.
Lent is a time for us to prepare for the Easter season through prayer, fasting, and alms giving. We will have Lenten prayer books, Stations of the Cross, confession, and special presentations throughout the season. Please join us in this time of purification and spiritual growth.
Blessings,
The Month dedicated to Saint Joseph

Why We Do What We Do
Without a period of Lent, can there truly be a resurrection? The Lenten Season is here, and many are still asking, why are we doing this
year after year and does it make a difference? Well, the short answer is that Lent is a time of prayer, fasting
and alms-giving, which hopefully leads us to a time of examining the messiness of life. Lent always invites us to
deal with the mess and sort through some of the debris in our lives. We begin by receiving Ashes on Ash Wednesday and the reminder that we are mere mortals but also made in the
image and likeness of God. Lent repeatedly calls us to come to grips with our brokenness, searching the ways in
which we have become sinful and then ultimately looking ahead with joy to resurrection.
Continuing with our theme this year of Community, I invite everyone to take time to redefine the word “sacrifice.” How is your sacrifice going to create J.O.Y. – Loving Jesus, Others and Yourself? When we realize that the abundant nature of
God’s love outweighs sin, selfishness and even death, we can look again at the ways in which we share this
abundant grace and love with each other. Our parish will offer many ways in which we can pray for our community and take the time for a Lenten re-examination of
our hearts, minds, and souls. We will be offering an additional Mass in Latin on Tuesday during the weeks of Lent.
Stations of the Cross every Friday evening can help to focus us on the road to Calvary and the crosses we bear in life.
Easter will surely come just as Lent is already here. Lent must be carried with sacrifice so that Easter and
the Alleluia can return renewed and alive, for without death …. there can be no resurrection!
