Sponsor programme for the free schools conference

TRANSCRIPT

15th June 2013

In partnership with SLG Consulting Limited, the West London Free School will again be bringing together expertise and guidance from those who have already gone through the process of setting up free schools to help those proposer groups that have been approved to open schools next year and beyond.

Keynote speakers are: • Elizabeth Truss, Parliamentary Under-

Secretary of State at the Department for Education

• Lord Adonis, Labour’s architect of the Academies programme

• Toby Young, Journalist, Author and co-founder of the West London Free School

Other speakers will cover areas such as legal matters, admissions, project management, curriculum design, site matters, recruitment and the relationship with the Local Authority.

Our emphasis will be on practical, useful and accessible advice in the pre-opening phase from those who have been there, done that and their expert advisers. All delegates will receive a free copy of Toby Young’s book ‘How to Set Up a Free School’.

The West London Free School was the first free school to sign a funding agreement with Michael Gove and opened in September 2011 with its first cohort of 120 secondary pupils. It was set up by a group of parents and teachers with the aim of providing a classical liberal education for all. Now in its second year, the school has become one of the most oversubscribed secondary schools in the country with 10 applications for every place. The West London Free School Primary will open in September 2013 with its first cohort of 60 children.

Following the success of our last year’s event, we are delighted to invite sponsors to join us for The Free Schools Conference: Roadmap to Opening at the West London Free School in Hammersmith on Saturday 15th June 2013.

Why you should attend...• A highly focused event, exclusively for

proposer groups approved to open in 2014 and beyond.

• Meet decision makers, all of whom need to procure services for their school within the next 12 months.

• An excellent opportunity to learn from and network with the free school community.

What delegates said about the 2012 conference... “…thank you for organising such a marvellous event. The range and quality of speakers that you attracted was quite incredible. The day as a whole was more useful than I can express... and isn’t entirely captured by the 23 pages of notes that I took, or indeed the 1500 words on ‘key points’ that I passed on to the rest of our team.”

Professor Jon Hindmarsh The Archer Academy

“I thought the line up was very impressive, the presentations were relevant, useful and the agenda very well managed. Many concrete action points have already come out of it on our front, so it was very far from a mere intellectual exercise.

I also thought the energy put into WLFS came across very strongly and you managed to pass it on to us ‘newcomers’

Very impressive indeed.”

Nicolas Tiffou Thomson House School

“I thought the presentations were uniformly excellent and the networking opportunities invaluable.”

Stuart Leeming New Islington Free School

Our survey of last year’s delegates revealed that 92% would tell the next wave of free school proposers that it was a worthwhile event that they shouldn’t miss.
