• Benefits of land = POWER for a nation

• Importance:• Economic
• Fur and supplies• Made $$$ from trade
• Military• Allies make your army stronger/bigger
• Benefits of trade = MONEY and STRENGTH for a nation
Treaty of Paris - 1763
• British WIN!!!• The British gain lots of land in North America.• The French lose lots of land in North America.

The New Relationship
• British colonists/troops and Native Americans (in the old French territory) don’t get along.
• Native Americans were attacking British settlers and forts.
• British troops then infect Native Americans with smallpox (a deadly disease).
• So King George III……..

• You are one of the members of King George's council. • He asks you to come up with a solution to the
problem between the Native Americans and the British colonists.
• Homework:– Paragraph 1 – Clearly present your solution.– Paragraph 2 - Clearly present why you believe this solution
would work.• The solution should help create peace and make
allies.• Discuss possible solutions with you group.
Proclamation of 1763
• British colonists could not settle west of the Appalachian Mountains.
• The colonists are angry. – By winning the war they felt they won the right to
that land.• Importance: This is the first time all 13
colonies become united against Great Britain.
