Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

God is in his holy dwelling place; the God who causes us to dwell together, One at heart, in his house; he himself will give power and strength to his people.

Let God arise, and let his enemies be scattered; and let those who hate him flee before his face. (Psalm 68: 6, 7, 36, 2)

All stand. The following refrain is sung first by the cantor, then by all. After the verse it is sung by all.

You have received a Spirit of adoption, through which we cry, Abba, Father. (Romans 8:15BC)

THE HOLY GOSPEL Luke 11:1-13 Before the Holy Gospel, the Priest or Deacon says or sings, “The Lord be with you,” to which all reply, “And with your spirit.” He then says, “A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke,” to which all reply, “Glory to you, O Lord.” Following the Holy Gospel the Priest or Deacon says or sings, “The Gospel of the Lord,” to which all reply, “Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.” HOMILY All are seated for the Homily. CREED The Creed is prayed by all. All bow where indicated. I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, (all bow) who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; he descended into hell; on the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty; from there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen. THE PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL After each intention, all reply, “Lord, hear our prayer.”

THE COMMUNION RITE THE LORD’S PRAYER The Lord’s Prayer is prayed by all.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed by Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

AGNUS DEI A Community Mass, Richard Proulx The Agnus Dei is sung by all.

INVITATION TO COMMUNION

Priest: Behold the Lamb of God. Behold Him who takes away the sins of the world. Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb. All: Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof. But only say the word and my soul shall be healed.

Catholics who are properly disposed are invited to come forward to receive Holy Communion. Our brothers and sisters of other faiths are invited to approach with arms crossed over the chest to receive a blessing. COMMUNION ANTIPHON Petite et Accipietis The Communion Antiphon is sung by the cantor or choir. Gregorian, Mode I

Ask, and you will receive; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you;

for all who ask, receive, he who seeks, finds, and to him who knocks it shall be opened, alleluia. (Luke 2: 9, 10; cf. Matthew 7: 7, 8 and 10: I)

AT COMMUNION: ANTHEM (5:00 PM) Draw Us In the Spirit’s Tether The Anthem is sung by the choir. Harold Friedell (1905-1958)

Draw us in the Spirit’s tether, for when humbly in Thy name, Two or three are met together Thou are in the midst of them;

Alleluia! Alleluia! Touch we now Thy garment’s hem. As the brethren used to gather in the name of Christ to sup,

ORGAN VOLUNTARY Symphony No. 6, Op. 42 V. Finale

Charles-Marie Widor (1844-1937)

Charles-Marie Widor’s 6th symphony for organ is an overall journey from dark to light. These final two movements, the “Cantabile,” and “Finale,” are part of the “light” portion of the symphony. The “Cantabile,” heard before Mass, is based upon a lilting, lyrical melody. In fact, the term,

“Cantabile,” is Italian for “in a singing style.” As such, the main theme of the movement is driven by a melody imitative of a song. The “finale” is the climax of the “light” portion of the symphony.

Its main theme is driving and triumphant. Throughout the movement this theme reappears in varied textures.

Maurice Duruflé’s setting of the Our Father prayer was intended to be sung by French

congregations. This is evident by the setting of the prayer in the vernacular language, and the simplicity of the melody. Its sublime harmonic language supports the multifaceted text of the prayer, introduced in today’s Gospel Reading. Supplementing the theme of Christian unity in petition to

God, Harold Friedell’s “Draw Us In the Spirit’s Tether” is a meditation on the unitive nature of the reception of the Body and Blood of Christ. Set across three verses, the anthem is a prayer for

holiness and unity among those who receive Christ in the Eucharist.
