Why do we need to engage students?
How useful are interactive technologies in the classroom?
A. The kids enjoy them, and they help them to retain more knowledge
B. The kids enjoy them, but they can be a distraction
C. There is no real change when using them
D. They are too distracting to be effective
Current Interactive Technology You Use
What do your students use at home?
How can we bring these things together?
Some tools to help bridge the gap
• Student responders– About 1/5 the cost of an iPod touch• 30 8gb iPods = $5250• 30 clickers = $1200
• Wireless slates– About ¼ the cost of a IWB– Easily shared by staff
We’ve got the stuff, now what can we do with
it??
Using responders effectively requires little effort in preparation.
A. YesB. No
Power Point
• Most software will run on top of Power Point
• Many companies offer integrated software as well
Math : A good place to start
Area of a Parallelogram
A = b * hh = 3 in
b = 8 in
A = 8 * 3
A = 24 in²
Area of a Rectangle
A = L * W
8 cm
35 cm
A = 35 * 8
A = 280 cm²
Area of a Square
A = s²9 mm
A = 9²
A = 81 mm²
Area of a trapezoid
A = ½ h (a + b)a = 5 in
b = 8 in
h = 6 in
A = ½ * 6 (5 + 8)
A = ½ * 6 (13)
A = ½ * 78 or A = 3(13)
A = 39 in²
h = 10 cm
a = 12 cm
b = 8 cm
A = ½ * 10 (12 + 8)
A = ½ * 10 (20)
A = ½ * 200 or A = 5 (20)
A = 100 cm²
A = b * h is the formula for which of the following
A. Area of a squareB. Perimeter of rectangleC. Area of a parallelogramD. Area of a trapezoid
Area of a Triangle
A = ½ b * h
h = 8 cm
b = 4 cm
h = 9 mm
b = 6 mm
A = ½ * 4 * 8
A = 2 * 8 or A = ½ * 32
A = 16 cm²
A = ½ * 6 * 9
A = 3 * 9 or A = ½ * 54
A = 27 mm²
A = ½ h (a + b) is the formula for which of the following

Test Taking
• Multiple choice• Number• Text input
• All saved into a report that is easily viewable and can be graded immediately
• Can often integrate with Examview software
Open Ended Questioning
• Read the whole post here– http://tiny.cc/q1o0p
Without an active focus on increasing the quality of questioning with student response systems, schools will inevitably end up with really expensive, overly-simple multiple choice nightmares. - Bill Ferriter
