The ,,Funkenfest”

The Funka

- old german tradition

- held in: - the Bodensee area (Germany) - Vorarlberg area (Austria) - places where German minorities live

The process of the Funka in Transilvania

- boy s and men of the village gather wood for the fire- the hay-cross is also prepared- girls and women preparing the feast for the Funka- the population of the village is meeting in the evening at the place where the Funka is held

- a young girl egnites the cross and the wood- people are praying and singing religious songs around the burning cross

- girls asking in Schwab-german ,, Schiebi, Scheiba, weam soll dea Scheiba sei?“

- boys and men throwing burning hay and wood into the night

The Funka usually ends with a carnival party in

the village that is lasting untill the

morning.
