Divvali LED products last over 50,000 hours (5.7 years of always-on use) and consume a fraction of the energy of a traditional or compact-fluorescent bulb. LED lightbulbs are extremely friendly to the environment, as they do not contain any hazardous chemicals or gases. Compact fluorescents contain mercury, and can cause serious health problems if broken or disposed of incorrectly.

Incandescent and halogen bulbs produce ultra-violet (UV) radiation which can damage human eyes and skin cells after prolonged exposure.

More light, less heat.

LED bulbs convert over 95% of their energy input to light, while only 5% is released as heat. At the other end of the spectrum, traditional bulbs dissipate nearly 95% of their energy as heat! Other types of lights, such as halogen, produce even more heat than an incandescent bulb, and can result in severe burns if improperly handled.

The Problem with Fluorescent Lighting

It is easy to see the immense benefits of LED lighting when compared to incandescent and halogen lighting. Fluorescent lighting, on the other hand, appears at first glance to be much more closely matched with LED lighting in terms of cost and energy savings. However, there are several reasons why LED’s truly shine brighter than their fluorescent counterparts.

Contamination and health issues

Fluorescent lamps contain mercury, a contaminant that can affect an entire area if released. If a fluorescent bulb breaks, it is recommended to wear rubber gloves and a breathing mask while removing the debris with a disposable tool. Due to the poisonous nature of the contents of fluorescant lamps, their disposal is limited to specific centers that deal with hazardous materials. This adds to their cost and is the only responsible way to dispose of these nasty lamps.

Fluorescent lamps emit ultraviolet (UV) light, which can affect some individuals who are sensitive to UV radiation. Similarly, the flicker of fluorescent lights, which is normally not visible to the naked eye but is picked up by the brain, can cause headaches and eyestrain.

Energy loss and increased cost

The inclusion of a ballast in fluorescent lighting applications increases the total cost of the installation and can lead to significant energy losses. Ballasts need replacement every 2-5 years and are a costly maintenance issue.

Fluorescent lights perform less efficiently at temperatures lower or higher than typical indoor room temperatures, resulting in higher costs. When switched on, fluorescent bulbs warm up slowly to full brightness, using more energy than during regular use. On the

other hand, LED’s are immediate-on.

Reduced bulb life

Fluorescent bulbs age rapidly when switched on and off frequently, and are therefore a poor choice for interior applications such as homes or offices. This is not true of LED’s, whose expected lifetime does not drop depending on frequency of usage.
