Why does the review matter to pharmacy owners?

Pharmacy owners receive a wide range of support at both a local and national level. For example: • PSNC represents pharmacies in national negotiations on pharmacy funding and services, and

provides guidance to help pharmacies provide NHS services;

• LPCs represent pharmacies in negotiations on local services and provide a range of resources to help contractors.

Given these critical roles, and the monies that contractors pay for them, it is important that the national and local organisations are working effectively to provide the best possible support for contractors, as well as the best outcomes on pharmacy funding and services. The review is seeking to define the future model for community pharmacy representation and support- it matters because it will determine the support contractors receive in the future.

How will this improve representation & support for me as a contractor?

Success will be defining a future model that will ensure:

….. your levy contribution is being used efficiently and effectively to provide support

….. the team representing you have been appropriately sized, staffed and trained to deliver the best possible outcomes

….. your voice can (and will) be heard at both national and local level

….. there are governance arrangements ensuring oversight of the performance of the national and local organisations on your behalf

…..you are receiving the same level, type and quality of support to your counterparts across England

To do this well, input from you as pharmacy owners is critical

Purpose of this survey

4

The first step is to define the roles that will provide NHS community pharmacy owners with the representation and support they want and need Once we have this model, we can then work on the structure and organisation, to ensure it is set up to deliver the best possible representation and support to contractors - including interaction with other bodies, how it is funded, and how it is governed and held to account

The purpose of this survey is to seek your feedback on:

• The functions we have proposed should be delivered at a national level

• The functions we have proposed should be delivered at a local level

• What functions, if any, should be provided at a regional level?

• Which common functions needed at a local level could be delivered centrally e.g. financial management, HR support etc?

Focus of this survey

Page 5: The Future of NHS Community Pharmacy Representation and

5

• Organisations operate more effectively

• Duplication of effort is eliminated

• Focus is directed towards high value activities that best support contractors

• There is consistency of representation and support for contractors

What do we want to achieve by defining the roles for the future?
