• Over the past 200 years there have been more than 50 eruptions in the Galapagos.

• One of the first people to visit the Galapagos was Charles Darwin.

• During his five week stay he was encouraged to create the theory of evolution.

• First Person to live in the Galapagos was Patrick Watkins in 1807, He made a living growing vegetables and trading them with visiting whale ships.

• Such a delicate system is very prone to human interruption as well as environmental stress.

• El Nino also has a big impact on the Galapagos. It caused fish to search for other waters, affecting other animals like seals and birds.

• Human interference also causes problems, like a big oil spill that occurred in 2001

• A majority of the Galapagos’s economy is tourism.

• Tourists enjoy the multitudes of unknown animals and the nice climate.
