A Message from the Desk of Sahar Ben Edalati The season of winter has finally arrived. A deluge of rain and a serious dusting of snow on our California mountains has us running for our sweaters and jackets. And just in time for the holidays, too! 2019 is one of those rare years where both Hanukkah and Christmas overlap, which means there will be celebrations aplenty this holiday season. We’ll kick off the merriment with the Festival of Lights on December 22nd, when we will light the menorah and sing our favorite Hanukkah songs like “Hanukkah, Oh Hanukkah”, and the Peter, Paul & Mary classic, “Light One Candle”, for the next eight evenings. For the Christmas holidays, we will be celebrating throughout the month with visiting carolers, holiday socials and concerts, seasonally-themed arts and crafts, lots of cheerful Christmas decor, and a sumptuous traditional Christmas Brunch. Since my arrival last month, we’ve identified specific areas in our community that we’ve been focused on enhancing, especially our levels of resident care giving. A significant element of this improvement has been the recent hiring of our new regional Wellness Director, the very well-qualified Teresa Flores. Teresa has made excellent inroads in this department. Another large part of our emphasis on heightened care has been our recent development of an updated monthly menu by our talented chef Crystal. She has created a menu largely centered upon ensuring that our residents receive healthy, delicious and nutritious meals every day. The new menu includes more green, leafy vegetables and salads, while reducing the amount of sugary and fatty foods. We are all very pleased with the amount of progress we have made in such a short amount of time. I want you to know that I’m always here for you... ready to act on your concerns, and to share in your joys. Peace and happiness to you and your family this holiday season, ~ Sahar Ben Edalati, Regional Operations Director 960 North Martel Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90046 / phone: 323.876.1746 lic: 197607149/197607155 The Garden Gate Community Newsletter December 2019 Newsletter melrosegardens.com Melrose Gardens Snapshots
