WEEK
Monday February 16
4B Term 1
Principal’s Report Fourth Primary Class
Next Monday Mr Adam Mannes will start at BCS as our
Year 4 class teacher. He comes to us from Wagga,
where he has been teaching at Sturt Public School.
Originally from Colleambally, he is well-versed in the
operation of central schools. We are looking forward to
welcoming Adam to our school.
Final Staffing Entitlement
Our final enrolment numbers have been sent to the
NSW DEC and while we have been lucky to secure a
fourth primary class, our secondary enrolments are a
little lower than we anticipated. This may mean that
our secondary staffing could be effected. The NSW DEC
is due to advise schools on final staffing entitlements on
February 25th.
Swimming Carnival
We had a fantastic turn-up of students and parents at
our annual swimming carnival on Thursday afternoon.
Thank you to the P&C for supplying our staff and volun-
teers with refreshing, tasty fruit and cold water. Thank
you to all parents who volunteered their time. Results
on page 3 of Gazette.
The students displayed a great level of enthusiasm and
sportsmanship throughout the afternoon and it was a
delight to see them encouraging students as they fin-
ished their races. Congratulations to all swimmers and
good luck to the students who have the opportunity to
represent BCS at the next carnival in Ariah Park.
Parent Luncheon
We will be holding our parent luncheon this Thursday.
A special invitation is extended to our new families to
come and meet the staff and other parents. Please
RSVP to the school by tomorrow to allow for catering.
School Planning – We Need You!
The NSW DEC has set a new method of planning for
schools which takes effect this year. By the end of
term 1 we must have our 2015-2017 plan finalised. As
such, we will be asking parents, staff and students to
provide feedback on areas of importance in our
school.
We want to know what you think is important for BCS!
We encourage you all to have your say – your voice is
important. Please participate in any surveys made
available to you; this ensures that your ideas are heard
and taken into consideration for the planning of our
great school.
Have a great week!

Uniforms …..
The P & C would appreciate payment of outstanding mon-
ey that is owed for uniforms. The P & C are obligated to
pay suppliers and if we do not receive money from par-
ents and carers this makes it very difficult. Some people
were going to do a direct deposit into the P & C account
but maybe with the holidays it could have slipped your
minds. As discussed at the P & C meeting I will be re issu-
ing invoices to families, if you are having any difficulties
feel free to contact the school office or Jeanette Brumby.
Student Lockers A reminder for secondary students using the new lockers purchased by our P&C last year. Students who already have a new locker are required to pay a $5 hire fee for 2015. This is due to the school by 27th February. Students who are not currently using a new locker but
would like to use one are required to pay $20 to the office
by 27th February. Thank you
P&C AGM
The P&C AGM will be held on Tuesday, March 10. If you
wish to be able to vote on matters that arise at meetings,
annual subscriptions must be received before this date.
Please fill in the form below and return to the school
office in an envelope, clearly marked P&C member-
ship.

K/1/2 Class News
It was great to see how well everyone participated at the swimming carnival on Thursday and it was lovely to see so many of our K/1/2 parents. I hope everyone came back refreshed ready for another week of learning after the long weekend. I will be sending out a note this week to get some feed-back from parents following our Best Start program. A reminder to parents to provide their email address to the school to enable your child’s ClassDojo account to be completed. Have a great week everyone.

Home Reading
Kindergarten began their Home Reading last week.
It is important that in these early days of reading children are encouraged through-out. Please sit with your child to complete the reader. You may need to read parts of the book. For instance your child may say the section of the book that is repeated and you read any new words. It is very im-portant to keep home reading a positive experience.
Please ignore the days in the home reader book. If you could complete each page it will be easier to keep track. It is also appre-ciated if you can keep a running number of the nights students have read throughout
2015 Swimming Carnival On a lovely Thursday evening we had another success-ful school swimming carnival. Macarthur won again this year with 447 points to Farrer on 369. Jordan Boyd was runner-up in a close finish. I wish to thank EVERYONE who assisted with running the carnival, the staff and parents who officiated on the night, the students who also helped out, the com-petitors who swam their hearts out and the Swimming Club for cooking the BBQ. A special thanks to Ian Waide who sets up everything for me and Mrs Tubb who does all the pre-carnival organisation. Good luck to all those students who are going on to the next lev-el. The Zone Carnivals are coming up quickly, this Friday, the 20th, the Secondary students are off to Ariah Park and next week on Thursday the 26th, the Primary stu-dents are also competing in Ariah Park. 4/5/6 News Accelerated Reading began last week, with all students
having completed their STAR tests. Students have been
given their new Reading Ranges and Targets for the
term. We have also begun our Mathletics and Spel-
lodrome tasks with all students having set tasks each
week which need to be completed. Each student is aim-
ing to achieve 1000 points for the week. Students who
do not complete the set tasks will not be able to move
on until the tasks are completed. If students are access-
ing these programs at home, the login details are the
same as at school and what they were using last year.
Class Dojo is up and running again this year. If you have
registered for this program (especially on your phones)
an update of the program/app may be necessary for you
to see your child’s progress. If you have done this and
you are still having issues, please fill out the small form
which has been attached to the last few Gazettes, send
it in and I can invite you from my end.
The letters regarding the Student-Led Conferences and
booking form will be sent home this week. They were
ready to go last week, but with the different routine for
the carnival, we held off until this week.
Next week we lose our Year 4 students to their new
class. We wish them the best with their new teacher.

The Canberra Raiders Visit
Yesterday, the Canberra Raiders came to our school.
They talked about being healthy and keeping fit. At the
end of the talk, Dane said we could get autographs. Some
people even got them on paper and hand balls.
Then it was home time, and all the kids lined up for bus
lines. It was a great day.

Australian Schools Competitions 2015
The Australian Schools Competitions run by the University of New South Wales will be on again this year.
Competitions are held in schools throughout Australia and the Pacific. All students from Years 2 to 12 are encour-
aged to participate.
Results are collated from throughout the state so students can compare their progress with others. Participating
in the competitions is good practice for the students in undertaking external examinations (e.g. Naplan and HSC).
All students receive a certificate of participation or for those students who perform well, certificates of merit or
even distinction.
Entry fees (subsidised by the school) are $5.00 for each student for each competition, except for the writing com-
petition which costs $12 and the primary spelling competition which costs $7.00 (these last two are hand marked
by specialists in their fields which is why they cost extra). The entry form is included in this week’s Gazette and is
due back with the payment to the school office by Friday March 13. Dates for competitions will be included in the
school calendar as they become closer.
