The Generation of 1930’s Greek writers that was created within a spiritual climate that is characterized by a renewal of poetry and on the other hand, searches in the prose. The cultural movement of surrealism and of its influence on writers of the modernist period is quite remarkable. Major poets of this period are Yorgos Seferis, Odysseus Elytis, Yannis Ritsos Andreas Embirikos, etc. While great novelists , Yorgos Theotokas, Kosmas Politis, Fotis Kontoglou ,Elias Venezis and Nikos Kavvadias,etc.

born on January 11, 1910 in Nikolski Oysoyriski, a provincial city of Harbin in Manchuria whose parents were descended from Kefallonia,named Charilaos Kavadias and Dorothea Angelatou [family of shipowners of Kefalonia]. In this small Russian town,two other children are born: Tzenia (Eugenia) and Mikias (Dimitri).

The family came to Greece and settled in Argostoli, while the father returns to his companies in Russia,that are destroyed financialy. After Argostoli, the family settles in Piraeus. Kavadias goes to elementary school and is classmates with Giannis Tsarouchis.Nikos used to read Julius Verne and other Adventure books. In high school he meets the writer and physician of the Navy, Pavlos Nirvana. Eighteen years old, he publishes poems in the magazine of the great Greek Encyclopedia under the pseudonym Peter Balchalas.

The family moves from Piraeus port to Athens. The House is a gathering place for writers, painters and poets. Kavadias at the time described as a simple man,charismatic, genial, with inexhaustible humor, dear to everyone. In 1938 serving in the army in Xanthi with the specialty of ‘’ muleteer.During 1939,he gets the diploma of lower class radio operator. In WWII he is deployed to Albania, where firstly he serves as a stretcher-bearer Muleteer , and later because of his specialty as a radio controler operator, he was used in the interception of the III Division station.

He becomes a member of ΕΑΜ, in early 1945, becomes head of the ΕΑΜ Writers-Poets, a position which he grants ,on

October 6 of the same year, to Νikhforos Vrettakos, due to his departure from Greece on the ship "Corinth". The police

gave him permission, as he was considered an inactive Communist

He travels constantly with very small breaks. In that period, the most important events in the life of the poet is the death of his youngest brother Argyris, in 1957 the launch of ' Vardia' ,in french in 1959, the re-release of "Marabou" and "Poysi" in 1961 published by Galaxy, the death of his mother in 1965 and the birth of Philip in 1966, the son of his niece Elga.
