Shelby Holland’s “Sassy Six” Such a great weekend was planned in February during the GFWC Georgia Leadership and Judging Weekend held at Amicalola Falls. Now we wait to hear the award winners during April Convention. I look forward to the honor of presenting the Esther Barnes District Achievement GOAL Gavel Award along with citations to each club who accumulated 100 points on their GOAL sheet. My thanks go to the clubs who participated by sending in their GOAL sheets. Also, the ”Shelby’s Sassy Six Challenge District Leadership Award” will be presented for the final time during April Convention to the District(s) who promoted and increased attendance at their 2019 Fall and 2020 Spring District Meeting. During Winter Executive Board, the “Sassy Six” District Presidents gave response to offer details for this President Elect while wearing their “2020 Vision Focus Glasses” as they passed along positive guidance for the upcoming two years from their experiences as District President. This information was appreciated and will be considered as a focus of things to remember during the 2020-2022 administration. I look forward to seeing everyone In April at the 124th GFWC Georgia State Convention at Unicoi State Park and Lodge during April 17-19, 2020.

Team 3 (Shelby Holland, Debby Vanderbunt, Pat Turner) won the Mardi-Bra decorating contest!

The “Shelby’s Sassy Six” enjoyed “Mardi Bras Fun” during the 2020 Annual Leadership and Judging Weekend at Amicalola Falls.

Other bras and underwear was collected by clubwomen to be donated to a local domestic violence shelter for women. As winners, Team 3 divided the collection of bras for distribution to women’s shelters in the Northeast, Central East and Central West Districts. Mardi-Bras was a fun as well as worthwhile event.

I cannot think of a better way to spend a spring Saturday in March than by attending the North West District Spring Membership Meeting. Spring in Atlanta is always special but to have the meeting at the beauti-ful Dunwoody Nature Center, with its wide windows and lovely views of the landscape makes for a truly special event. Not only will we have a unique setting but we will also have a deli-cious luncheon buffet featuring chicken, salmon, vegetables and two desserts catered by Marlow’s. Welcome Spring…..New beginnings is our theme. The centerpieces and the favors will creatively reflect this theme. It is a time to recognize the accomplishments of our clubs. Awards will be presented. Those members who are loved and re-spected but no longer with us will be remembered. The new 2020-2022 administration will be elected, in-

South West District – PRESIDENT Dianne Barlow South West District has been very busy. All reports have been submitted and we are excited about our Spring District Meeting that will be held in Albany at the Doublegate Country Club. We are looking forward to our Spring District Meeting. We will be installing our new officers and we have a great slate of new officers. 2020-2022 will be great. It is always exciting to hear from the Club Presidents about all the wonderful projects that their clubs have com-pleted. The awards are always one of the highlights of the Spring Meeting. Of course, the State Convention is always on our minds as well as the 2020 GFWC convention in Atlanta. Hopefully we are prepared for our part of this great convention. Tifton Twentieth Century Library Club has changed their name to GFWC Tifton Woman's Club. They had a name changing party to celebrate. South East District -PRESIDENT Hilda Hagarty

Clubs in the South East District were busy in the last months of 2019. Members participated in Wreaths Across America ceremonies at Andersonville, Glennville, and even in Jacksonville. Year-end holiday celebrations were the order of the day at most December club meetings – fellowship, fun, and good food were all on the menu. The new year started with clubs compiling information for the State reports. And several clubs par-ticipated in Georgia Cares projects for MLK, Jr. Day of Service. Thanks to the Brunswick, Magnolia Civic, and Woodbine clubs for helping young victims of sexual trafficking. Now, we all are gearing up for our Annual District Meeting at the Jesup First United Methodist Church in Jesup on Saturday, March 21, 2020. Our host clubs, Altamaha and Brunswick, are plan-ning a wonderful Symphony of Flowers meeting for all as we honor our outstanding clubs and mem-bers, marvel over our talented students and members who entered our District Arts Competition, and elect and install our new officers for the 2020-2022 term. We will remember our past members who passed in 2019. And along the way we will have some fun with our Crisco Queen Bake-Off, our 50/50 Opportunity Raffle, and Door Prizes. Cost is $20 and the deadline to register is March 13, 2020.

Thanks to each South East District member (and other District members as well) for your support, encouragement, and friendship during my tenure as your 2018-2020 District President. It has been an honor and privi-lege to work with all of you to make our district (and state) a better place for all.

It has been such an honor to serve GFWC Georgia as the Director of Junior Clubs. These two years have flown by so quickly. I have enjoyed meeting so many new friends not only in Georgia, but across the United States. I have had the privilege of visiting the Georgia Junior Clubs in celebration of their milestone anniversaries and assisting with their fundraising projects. I have been able to share my passion for Women’s Health with an Emphasis in Diabetes. I only hope and pray that you have learned something that may help you to live a healthy lifestyle. Together, we have helped to send a little girl for the first time to Camp Kudzu (a camp for children with Type 1 Diabetes). We also raised over $1,000 for the Ronald McDonald House, over $3,200 for St Jude’s Children’s Hospital, and over $400 for March of Dimes. We have a few more weeks be-fore my time is over and I pass the baton to Dana. Thank you so much for supporting me during the ups and downs of the past two years of my life. A huge Thank You to Tina Daniel for allowing me to share this journey under her leadership. She has become a very close friend to me – just one of the many perks of GFWC sister-hood. We could write a book on our many adventures for the past few years. Please be sure to register for 2020 Convention at Unicoi State Park on April 17-19, 2020. You don’t want to miss the weekend, but especially the Saturday luncheon where we will emphasize some of the Junior Awards, install the 2020-2022 Junior Conference officers and have some special information to share. There is a Wine Tour on Friday that promises to be lots of fun. Mark your calendars for this great upcoming Weekend! As we close the 2018-2020 term, I hope that you always remember that “It is What You do for Others that Counts”. With Much Love, Becky Bolden [email protected] or [email protected]

We recently had an issue, so let’s educate . . .

An email was sent out by what appeared to be from Shelby Holland our 1st Vice President - President Elect.

If you responded you were sent a request to purchase gift cards and send them to her. This is a SCAM! Shelby’s email is [email protected], notice the difference? If this happens to you and you are not sure call the State Office.

Communications and Public Relations - Share the Love of GFWC

When you have a club event/project or club meeting you usually put out flyers and might even advertise in newspapers. Many members are on Facebook and other social media. Did you know you can create an “event” on Facebook on your club page? This event can be your club meeting, a food drive, a spaghetti feed, or work party. Create an event for whatever your club is planning that you want others to know about and perhaps even help. The event gives the date, time, and location; also include a photo to draw attention. Once you create the event you can invite your friends, often including those who live in the area. Everyone that has liked your page can see it. Did you know there is another way to increase the awareness of your club and events? There are interest groups on Facebook. Search the groups in your area, they consist of people that have interest in small communities, helping others in the community, or maybe being a certain age. My club is a county wide club and there are twenty Facebook groups in our area that you can join. You can see what they are posting and you are also able to post in the group. Now when an event is created for my club, we share the event with each of these groups. When you share the event add a little comment about how great your club is. Also let them know how much fun you have, what you like about your club, and invite the ladies to come learn more about the club or just come to help with a project/fundraiser. Let them know about GFWC and your love of GFWC. We have been able to increase our likes and it took awhile, but we are now getting new mem-bers because of the postings on Facebook. Be sure to get all of your members to help by asking them to share and invite their friends. You will be able to see who has expressed interest in your event. You can also see if you have friends in common with those that have expressed interest. If a club member is one of their friends, ask that club member to personally invite them to your event. The more we get our name out there with what we are doing, the more we will grow. Let everyone know how much we love GFWC and the difference we make through our service!! Nancy Burdick’ GFWC Communications and Public Relations Committee Member
