BILL WISCH SLYDINI LECTUREOur February meeting was a special event, a Slydini Lecture by Bill Wisch. Bill Wisch was chosen by Tony Slydini in 1976 to deliver lectures on his behalf upon the release of The Best of Slydini and More by Karl Fulves. Slydini died 24 years ago (January, 1991). WISCH LECTURE (Continued from Page 1)how to use them to your advantage. His demonstration of how to use one’s elbow as a servante was not only clever, but provides a great way to perform the Balls to Box or Torn and Restored Napkin while standing and using a wand. It was touches like this where one can see how Bill has created his own style of magic.

Slydini’s Oil and Water was shown and, when explained, we were introduced to Bill’s original sleights, his Phan-Thumb Card Count. This count allows you to do a totally convincing Elmsley or Jordan Count while standing up, counting the cards slowly in front of your chest, their faces to the audience and their backs to you. In fact, Bill has created many original and practical

sleights that can be found in his lecture notes and DVDs. He next showed us the famous Slydini Knots followed by The Helicopter Card, both bold and challenging classics. Bill next performed the Coins Through Table with using copper and silver coins. The coins provided an opportunity for Bill to expound lapping techniques, including the timing, rhythm, and postures involved in lapping.

The evening ended with Slydini’s Ring on Rope, coupled with his Linking Rings routine using 4” rings. This was a killer routine and, once again, showed how you can take any effect and make it your own. The last effect, a rope trick Bill called Slydini’s The Chicago Loop Mystery, was an amazing bit of chicanery and great way to end the lecture.

Right now I am asking for your help. We have already reached our minimum funding goal on the popular funding site Kickstarter and now we have the ability to take this project to the next level!  And if we reach our next fundraising goal, everyone who donated $30 during the campaign will receive a deck of playing cards signed by myself, Max Maven, and Mac King!

Please help us spread the word to your members by sending this note in an email, posting about the film on your Facebook page or in your newsletter so that we can bring Where the Magic Happens to a wide audience.

See a sneak peek of the film and donate here: www.kickstarter.com/projects/marciehume/where-the-magic-happens-a-new-documentary

I am so excited to be a part of this project that explores the beauty of magic and what it takes to be a magician. I am always eager to bring positive attention  and press to our industry, and this documentary celebrates all that we love.

Thank you,Lance Burton

Where Magic Happens: A New Documentary...

My name is Lance Burton and as you may know, I have dedicated my life to the study and performance of magic. I am a strong believer that there is nothing  better than bringing a sense of astonishment and wonder into the world.

I am writing with some exciting news: I have signed on as Executive Producer to a documentary feature called Where the Magic Happens. This film  goes deep inside the magic community, following four professional magicians who have refused to give up the dream that the impossible is actually  possible. Their stories are touching, inspiring, and illuminate the power and potential of our craft.

The 85th I.B.M. Convention will be in Phoenix, Arizona

in July. Book now.
