A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single

    step in the right direction.

The odds of hitting your target go up

dramatically when you aim at it."

The great secret of getting what you want from

life is to know what you want and believe you can

    have it. -Norman Vincent Peale

"Purpose is what gives life a meaning. Harvey

    Mackay

"A goal is a dream with a deadline." -Charles

    Henry Parkhurst, D.D.

Action to be effective must be directed to clearlyconceived ends. (Jawaharlal Nehru, Indian

    statesman, 1889-1964)

Even if youre on the right track, youll get run

over if you just sit there.

Roadmap of Life If you were going to drive to

somewhere unfamiliar whether cross country or just

across the city - what would be the first thing you

would do? Map it out? And then after you mapped it

out, would you never look at the map again? Not

likely. More likely, you would refer to the map often, to

make sure that you were on the right track. You would

be able to tell quickly if you needed to make

adjustments, correct a mistake, or consider a change of

plans. Posting your goals, standards, boundaries,

mission statement, etc. is very much like having a map

to refer to A Life Map. Design Your Dream

LifeWilliam Marsten, a prominent psychologist, asked

3000 people, What have you to live for? A whopping

94% felt they had no purpose in their lives! Like any

major project, Design Your Dream Life begins with the

end in mind. You need to see and feel what you want to

create before the execution begins. Start with the

things that are the most important to you. Im sure this

will include loving and being loved, being a great parent

and partner, being a good friend to many, touching

many people and contributing to many communities

What will have you say, "Yes, I lived my life and it was

    truly a blessing?"

The design phase begins with dreams. So awakening the

dreamer inside of you may be the first essential step

Many of us have been stuck in reality and have become

so masterful at problem solving (a useful skill) that its

been a long time since the dreamer inside wa

    nurtured, or at least heard.

Take some quality time to sit down with a journal or

note pad and interview this amazingly wise part o

yourself. Get reacquainted. Ask it what it wants and

needs. Ask what its highest vision is for you. Ask it how

you can have more access to it and it to you. Ask it

anything you want to know and write down its answers

There is a dream seed planted inside of you and its as

unique as your own DNA. Its been patiently waiting fo

you to tune in and truly begin to live the life of your

dreams. To Design Your Dream Life, go beyond the

logics of the dream process and practice living as a

dreamer. Once youre clear about what you want and

believe its remotely possible, creating a strategy is easy

    The Goal Setting Blueprint

STEP 1 . Develop a DESIRE to achieve the goal. The desire

must be intense. How do you intensify desire? Sit down and

write out all the benefits and advantages of achieving your

goal. Once the list goes between 50 and 100 your goa

    becomes unstoppable.

STEP 2 . WRITEyour goal down. Once it goes into writing it

becomes substantial and starts etching itself into your

    subconscious.

STEP 3 . IDENTIFY 1) the obstacles you will need to

overcome, 2) the help you will need to acquire, e.g

knowledge, people, organizations. In each case write them

out in a clear list and analyze them.

STEP 4.DEADLINEyour goal. Analyze where you are now in

relation to the goal and then measure how long you wil

reasonably need to complete the goal. Then set the latest

    outside date.

STEP 5.Take all the details of steps 3 and 4 and make a PLAN.

List all the activities and prioritize them. Rewrite the list,

    optimize it, and perfect it.

STEP 6. Get a clear MENTAL PICTURE of the goal already

accomplished. Make the mental image crystal clear, vivid in

the mind's eye. Play that picture over and over in your mind.

STEP 7. Back your plan with PERSISTENCE and resolve. Never,

never, never give up even when you hit setbacks

Procrastination is often a result of two main causes: 1. the

task in hand is overwhelming2. The task in hand is

Here are ways to beat procrastination resulting from

an UNPLEASANT task: Deal with the task immediately,

just meets it head on. Repeat to yourself the greater

unpleasantness that will result from not carrying outthe task. Build enthusiasm for the results from the task

which will overshadow the unpleasantness of actually

completing the task. Seriously ask yourself: "What is the

price of procrastination in this case and am I willing to

pay it? Reason, "If I am going to do this job eventually

anyway I might as well do it now and get it out of the

way! Think of ways to reward yourself at various

    stages through the task.

    unpleasant

Procrastination Here are ways to beatprocrastination resulting from an OVERWHELMING task:

Start by planning - breaking the overwhelming task intomanageable chunks. Get started on the task right away

by taking a small slice at a time.Use a time slice as small

as five minutes and start on the easiest part of the task.

(Often, once you are involved, the momentum builds

    and procrastination retreats!)Get more information

about the overwhelming task. Speak to others, gather

more details. The more you know, the overwhelming

task can shrink and get more into perspective. Start

repeating to yourself all the benefits that will come

from completing the task. Describe in graphic terms the

worst possible consequences from NOT completing the

task. Setting a deadline can kill procrastination as the

mind gets locked on to the 'mission' to complete the

task in a pre-determined time span. In planning, write

out the steps in advance. As you come towards the end

of one step, you automatically have the next step in

mind, making it more difficult to put the task off

    through procrastination.

Goal Setting Secrets of the Real Life Indiana Jones

Remember when you were 10? Can you recall some of

the dreams you had then? How many have you

accomplished? My reflection on that is what attracted

me so strongly to the story ofJohn Goddard, of whom

the LA Times called, "The real life Indiana Jones," and

one of his expeditions, "the most amazing adventure o

this generation." When he was 15, Goddard was

inspired to create a list of 127 life goals (he called it

My Life List). By his last count, the young seventy

something has accomplished 111 of these PLUS 400

others he set along the way!!

Heres just a few of the ones hes reached:

Hes climbed many of the worlds major peaksincluding the Matterhorn, Ararat, Kilimanjaro, Fiji

    Rainier and the Grand Tetons.

He followed Marco Polos route through all of theMiddle East, Asia and China.

Hes run a mile in five minutes, broad jumped 15feet, high jumped five feet and performed 200 sit

    ups and 20 pull-ups.

He was the first person to explore the 4200-milelength of the world's longest river, the Nile. (It was

the number one goal of the 15-year-old Goddardand the one the Times called the most amazing

adventure of this generation.). He has also been

down the Amazon, Congo and others.

John has been to 122 countries, lived with 260different tribal groups, and explored the

underwater reefs of Florida, the Great Barrier Ree

in Australia, the Red Sea, and more.

He has flown 40 different types of aircraft and stilholds civilian air records; has read the Bible cover to

cover and learned to speak French, Spanish and

    Arabic.

The last two on his original list included marrying and

having children (he has six) and living to see the 21st

Century, which he has done in style.
