The Good News of
Second Baptist Church
Grace and peace to you today in the name of our resurrected Lord, Jesus Christ. Because of Him, I have hope and help for every situation I may encounter in the pilgrimage I am making through life. As a result of this, I know “all things work together to good for those who love HIM and are called according to His purposes”, Romans 8:28. It is extremely hard to wrap my mind around the fact that 1/3 of 2019 is already behind us. Yes, the school year is 20 plus days away from being history which brings floods of emotions. Graduation is now in order for many which means a milestone has been reached, careers are being chosen, and life moves on. Congratulations to all of you who are completing High School and College and may God bless your future. I encourage you about your worship and Kingdom work. As the summer break gets into full throttle, remember, your class (small group Bible study, your church (each member), and your mind & spirit need the refreshing which worship brings each week. Yes, your church and Christ needs you but so do you need Christ and His church. Why not adopt this theme for the summer. “Make your Days Count rather than Count Your Days”! Pastor Derwin

Dear Church Family, Thank you for all the prayers, visits, food, and outpouring of love during our time of loss. You all are an awesome church family. Stancil & Denise Strickland
Members of Second Baptist, Thank you so much for the love shown to the Goble Family during our recent time of sorrow. Losing our parents/grandparents leaves a hole in our hearts, but only temporarily. We are so thankful to know we will see them again in the presence of Jesus. The wonderful meals prepared and served for us before both funeral services, in short time spans, were such an act of love and service. We are grateful. Much love & thanks, Mollie Wilson Granddaughter of Claud & Betty Goble
The Gathering is May 3 at 10:30 am. Please sign up in the middle foyer. Please see Daniel if you can help
serve. We will not have a meeting in May.
Dear Second Baptist Family, Thank you so much for your prayers, cards, and calls during my recent illness. I am so thankful to be a part of such a loving and sup-portive church family. We appreciate you all! Linda Hickox
Walking in faith In What Are You Afraid Of? Facing Down Your Fears With Faith (Tyndale House), David Jeremiah describes Englishman John Pounds (1755-1839) as an example of facing debilitation with faith. While working at the docks as a teen, Pounds fell from a ship’s mast. Recovery took two years. Out of boredom while bedridden, he began reading the Bible and soon accepted Christ. Once well enough, Pounds worked for a cobbler and later bought his own shop, making orthopedic shoes for disabled children. His own body had healed crookedly, resulting in constant pain, so he could identify with the people he served. Pounds also fed homeless children, taught them to read and told them about Jesus. “What might John Pounds have become had he not been severely injured?” Jeremiah asks. Our struggles often enable us to empathize with and help people we wouldn’t have met otherwise. Through our weakness, God can minister to others (2 Corinthians 12:9).

Choir News - The Worship Choir will continue
its normal practice schedule during the month of May. We invite you to come and be a part of this ministry team. God has blessed us with so many giving people. What is keeping you from giving the choir a try? We hope you can come to a rehearsal and help us as we make a joyful noise together. Practices are only one hour per week. You do NOT need to know how to read music. We meet every Sunday at 4:45 pm in the choir room. Please see Bro. Mike if you have further questions.
Women's Ministry
Orchestra News - Thanks to all of the orches-
tra members who gave up some extra time last month in preparation for exciting “LIVE” music in April. We have some new songs to learn and hope you will continue to be a part of it. You are a blessing to work with! The SBC Church Orchestra usually rehearses each Sunday morning at 9:10 am before Sunday School. Please see Bro. Mike about the qualifications of playing in this music ministry. Most band students can think about joining this group after 2 full years of band experience. We are entering the Summer Season in May preparing for the end of AWANA with Awards Night on May 15. VBS and Summer JAM are approaching in June! We are planning and working on several different outreaches . For our JAM Jrs. and JAM Srs., we are planning a “Teddy Bear” Sleepover later in May. Kids can bring their special stuffed friends for a sleepover right at the Church. Then join us the next morning for a cereal breakfast to see what their friends have been up to during the night. It should be a lot of fun for everyone! We are morphing our Backyard Bible Clubs to Sidewalk Sunday Schools to go into neighborhoods where the children are in their own “backyards”. So many opportunities coming up to reach families this short Summer that we want you to be praying how you can help in all sorts of different ways. We will have more information coming in the next few weeks for these upcoming events.
