The Greatest Gift We Have Been Given

Page 2: The Good News - ourstraightpath.files.wordpress.com file · Web viewOf course not, but it does mean that in God’s awesome grace and foresight, He freely gave us His Word, His Spirit,

Jesus was also the redeemer. We are redeemed by the blood of Jesus. This means that as sinners we had a sentence to pay and out of His love He payed it for us. We are justified in the blood of Jesus. Meaning that we are no longer guilty of our sins because Jesus was the bearer of that guilt for us. Jesus has also reconciled us to God. Lost and once estranged to God, we can now have a personal relationship with Him. We have access to the One who created the heavens and the earth, to speak with Him and see Him actively move through our lives. The best part is that even through all He suffered Jesus rose again on the third day. Sitting at the right hand of God Jesus released the Holy Spirit into the world so that we may have a helper. To guide us, to strengthen us. When we come to Belief in Jesus we don’t have to try to be good. We are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. He makes us good. God’s will is that all should be saved and to have a relationship with each and every one of us. So out of that desire and a love that we can only hope to fathom, He sent His only Son. To be the One to bring His children back to Him. To know Him as He knows us. A relationship with God is as easy as acceptance of what Christ has already done for us at the cross. Accept, repent, believe. You are loved!

The Good NewsYou’ve probably heard many say that in order for God to accept you, in order to please Him, you must be good. Or that to get into heaven you must be a good person. I am here to tell you, that is not true. God loves you as you are and can accept you as you are. How is this possible you ask? Jesus. We are born with a sin nature, Freud called it our Id. This is that want in you to do all that gives you immediate pleasure, momentary happiness, or an easy way out. This part of you doesn’t think long-term or consequences just, “I want it and I want it now!” God calls this want, this nature, our flesh.

“Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry (those false gods you guys), sorcery, enmity (hostility towards others), strife (being angry or bitter), jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries (I’m better than you because…), dissensions(arguments), divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these” Galatians 5:19-21. Wow! That’s a lot! I’m also pretty sure we can pick out quite a few if not all that we are guilty of. For all have fallen short and sinned, ALL.Unfortunately, we are not perfect, but fortunately, WE ARE NOT PERFECT! Does that mean that we have a right to keep sinning? Of course not, but it does mean that in God’s awesome grace and foresight, He freely gave us His Word, His Spirit, and Jesus; who died for all your of our sins, even those we have yet to commit.WHAT Jesus did at the cross was not only die for the forgiveness of our sins but Christ is "the propitiation," of our sins. By his becoming our substitute and assuming our obligations he expiated our guilt, covered it, by the vicarious punishment which he endured. Because God is holy and just He cannot bear sin, Jesus made it so that when God looks at us He no longer sees a sinner but in Christ Jesus He sees a child in whom He is pleased.
