I.Trap—Test

2. ImportanceofScripturalsupporttoescapethetrap.Jesusasked:“WhatdotheScripturessay?Howdoyouinterpretthem?”– itdoesnotmatterhowgoodourideas are.IftheyarenotbasedontheScriptures,wearetrapped.

3. Jesusisabletoturnatrapintoaroadtoeternallife.ThroughthisparableJesusshowedusnotonlyawayof lifebutalsoawayto life.

4. TheteacheroftheLawtestedJesusbutJesuspresentedatesttohimandtoallofus.Trapsandtestscomeindifferentformsandshapes.Peoplewhoaretrappedcanbecomeourtests.

5. WearealltrappedandwoundedonthatroadbetweenJericho&Jerusalem.Peoplearetrappedthereinbothdirections.WithoutJesus,ourGoodSamaritan,wearelefttodie.

8. Helpingmyneighbormayincludeasacrifice:mytime,finances,emotional&personalinvolvement,etc.

9. Loveincludesrestoration.Withoutrestoration,asadesiredgoal,loveisincomplete.Itisimpossibletolovesomeoneanddonotwanthimorherto berestored.Ifwedon’tworkonrestorationofpeoplearoundus,wedon’tlovethem.

10.Restorationoftenmeansnecessityofanetwork:oftenitmeansmorethanone-timehelp,morethanonepersoninvolved;oftenanetworkofcaregivers,specialists,facilities,differentslotsoftime,etc.,arenecessary.Inthiscase,therewasaninnandaninnkeeper.

III.Transformation

11. Positionsinspiritualworkdoesnotguaranteewearespiritualpeople.Weallneedacontinuous(unceasing)transformationinourjourney,weneedtobecomemoreandmorelikeJesustofulfillHismission.

12. Restorationcanbepartialorcomplete.Itcanbephysical,emotional,spiritual,orallthe above.SpiritualrestorationisnotcompletewithouttransformationbythepowerofGod.

13. CoulditbethatthosewhoteachtheLawandareexpertsoftheLaw,needtobeinvolvedinthepracticalapplicationofthetheoriesmorethanothers?(ThepriestandLevite)

A REAL HOMECOMING

“I really didn’t know what to expect when I decided to make the journey back to Rwanda. It’s been 11 years since I’ve visited. This time I’m traveling alone and I arrived in Rwanda last night.11 years ago I was still married, I was waiting tables, and my world was full of drugs and dysfunctional relationships. I hadn’t put any thought into my spirituality or what I believe, in fact I’d done everything I could to avoid thinking about it.When I got to the gravesite 11 years ago I cried from a place in my being that I didn’t know existed. The trajectory of my life changed from that moment forward. It’s led me to where I am now.Today I’m sitting in the Capital of Rwanda, Kigali. I was picked up at the airport by a man, Jotham, that helped take care of me as a child. I’m staying at a Seventh-Day Adventist guesthouse. A part of me is relaxing and feeling at home in a deep way that I haven’t felt in years.This time, I’m already crying often. So much healing has occurred in my life since the last visit. I can hardly believe how much emotion is still in me that wants to come out related to this. It’s profoundly moving for me to be here. I can hardly imagine where life takes me from here.I feel a deep sense of gratitude for those of you who have believed in me and supported me up until this point on my journey. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!”
