The Goomalling Gazette

Dear Parents/Guardians, Staff and Students,

I hope everyone had a safe and relaxing break over the holidays and our students and staff have returned

refreshed to school for a busy Term Four.

Staff Movements

This term we welcome back our Room 9 teacher Miss O’Keeffe who returns from leave and I know the students

and staff are excited to have her back. Mrs Bailey will continue to work in Room 9 on Friday’s for Weeks 1-5 while

Miss O‘Keeffe completes the rest of her Long Service Leave.

Mrs Sewell will also be working in the school admin office on Monday mornings and Mrs Way on Wednesdays this

term. Mrs Barratt will remain working in the office on Fridays.

Miss Morris and I will also be away next week from Wednesday 25th October for our wedding. We will return to

school on Thursday 2nd November. Mrs Millsteed will replace me as Principal and Mrs Rowles will replace Miss

Morris in Room 6 while we are away.

New Smart Board in Room 1

Last Friday we had a fabulous new Smart Board installed in Mrs Inglis’s Room 1 class. A big thank you must be

given to our P&C for their generous contribution of $2,500 towards this item. I know Mrs Inglis, Mrs Carr and the

students in Room 1 are excited to have this Smart Board and I am sure it will be the source of many engaging

learning experiences over the next few years.

Grass Roots CBH Grant

Over the school holidays we received the terrific news that Goomalling PS was the beneficiary of a $4,000 grant

from CBH. We will be using the money to purchase and install two 25,000 litre water tanks at our school to supply

water to our vegetable gardens near the tennis courts. The P&C and the school will also donate some money

towards this water wise project. Thank you very much to Christie Kingston for applying for the grant and we hope

to have the new water tank installed and functioning by the end of this term.

Attendance Award Our school attendance rate for Term Three was 88.2% which represented a drop from our attendance rate in Terms 1 & 2 of 91.3%. Our attendance award will run again this term with students achieving an attendance rate above 95% to receive a certificate. In addition, all those boys and girls who are here 90% or more of the time in Term Four will participate in our whole school tabloid sports reward day in Week Ten. Parents and Guardians if you could provide any medi-cal notes for absences if possible to the school that would be much appreciated. Year 6 Orientation sessions to Northam SHS These sessions will begin on Thursday in Week 4 this term for those students attending Northam SHS next year and continue until Week 7. The students will catch the bus from Goomalling to Northam and arrive at the high school around 9am. The sessions will go for two hours and then a bus will drop the students back to our school. Assembly – Week 5 Our first assembly for Term Four will be in Week 5 on Wednesday. Mrs Inglis’s class will be performing an item at this assembly. School Development Day – Week 5 Don’t forget that there is a pupil free day on Monday 5th November. Staff will be participating in a professional learning session on this day. Early Close Early close will continue next term as usual at 2.30pm every Thursday.

Woolworths Earn an Learn “As you know, our school has been participating in Woolworths Earn & Learn. The program has now finished for this year, so a big thanks to everyone who supported our school. We're now at the important stage of the program where the Sticker Sheets are collected and lodged as our Earn & Learn claim. We will then be able to get new educational equipment for our school. The more we collect, the

more we can redeem. So this week, please send in your Woolworths Earn & Learn Sticker Sheets and any loose Earn & Learn stickers you may have. Remember to check your handbag, the car glove box or they maybe stuck on the fridge. Every little bit helps. Thanks again for all your support!”

Once again, the library is celebrating Book Fair 2017. Book Fair will continue for

the next two weeks. You, your family members or friends are most welcome to

come along and browse all the wonderful book, poster and stationary items that

are for sale. I will be in the library every school morning from 8.30am until the bell

at 8.50am, or Tuesday to Thursday afternoons until 3.30pm. Students may also

come along and have a look during their lunchtime Monday to Thursday.

Payments may be made in cash, cheque (please make the cheque payable to

(Goomalling Primary School P & C) or via Online Payments with Scholastic. Details

for online payments are on the back of the ‘My Wish List” form, which all students

have received. It is very important that you let me know the receipt number for

your purchases.

As in the past, I will hold books for you until they can be paid for. Scholastic offer

an option that allows me to re-order certain books if the copies that are in the

library are sold. These books normally take 2-3 weeks to arrive.

Your continued support of the library is so much appreciated. We are fortunate

that all book fair sales result in commission for our library to purchase new books

for the students.
