Every museum in Granada offers opening hours, ex- hibitions and special suggestions we encourage you to enjoy. The Portal de Museos de Andalucía (Museum Portal of Andalusia) provides information on the activity pro- grams and opening hours of the Regional Government of Andalusia´s museum network. The International Council of Museums (ICOM), consul- tative body of the UNESCO, promotes the celebration of the International Day of the Museums annually on the 18th of since 1977, to educate the public in general on the role museums play in the development of society. In 2017 the event revolves around the theme “Museums and controversial stories: Saying the unspeakable in museums.” The museum collections incarnate memories and represent history. It also encourages museums to play an active role in peacefully addressing traumatic histories through me- diation and multiple points of view. It was then completed with collections from the Regional Government of Andalu- sia dating from the 19th and 20th centuries and with acquisitions of important artworks of contemporary Grenadians, such as Manuel Ángeles Ortiz, Manuel Rivera and José Guerrero. OPENING HOURS: Tuesday through Saturday, from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.; Sunday, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Mondays closed LOCATION: Palace of Charles V (top floor). Following the theme that the International Council of Museums has proposed for this year (Mu- seums and controversial stories: Saying the unspeakable in museums), this exhibition revisits, through the collection of artworks (usually stored), key historical events in the transformation of the city, characterized by having caused traumatic episodes in the destruction of heritage. ACTIVITIES IN THE MONUMENTAL COMPLEXEXHIBITION: The skin of the AlhambraAccessible educational exhibit that presents the characteristics of the main materials with which the Alhambra was decorated, the techniques used to work on it and the main decorative motifs.

MUSIC RECITAL: Resounding Legacy. The Alhambra of the artists The guitarist David Martínez will perform pieces by Ángel Barrios with the composer’s guitar (an ins-trument that belongs to the legacy of this Alhambra musician, and is part of the artistic collections of the Museum of the Alhambra), as well as pieces by Manuel de Falla and Isaac Albéniz.

MUSEUM OF THE ALHAMBRA The Museum of the Alhambra presents the visitors with a unique chance to view artistic objects dating from the beginning of the Hispano-Muslim period (Emiral period) to the Nasrid period. Visitors will be presented with works of great value from these periods coming from the Alham-bra. Andalusian music will be played in the Museum of the Alhambra from the 18th to 21st of May as a complement to the tour.

TEMPORARY EXHIBITION: Reflections of Egypt. The Fatimid ceramic collection of the Museum of the AlhambraThe exhibition studies golden glaze ceramics of Egyptian origin, preser-ved in the collections of the Museum of the Alhambra and direct prece-dent of the Nasrid golden glaze ceramics. Amid the exhibited collections, the visitors will be walked through figurative, epigraphic, vegetable and geometri-cal themes.

VIRTUAL TEMPORARY EXHIBITION: Draw, research, and classify your favorite piece of art of the Museum of the Alhambra 2017Awards ceremony for the three activity/contests “Draw in the Museum of the Alhambra,” “Re-search and classify your favorite piece of art” and “Draw in family,” and the inauguration of the virtual exhibition of the works carried out in the call of 2017.

ACTIVITIES IN THE MUSEUM OF THE ALHAMBRAGUIDED TOURS: Museum of the AlhambraFor the International Museum Day, the cultural volunteers in the Museum of the Alhambra will help the visitors who request it at the museum. They will explain the permanent exhibitions, in Spanish, French, English, or German.

MUSICAL RECITAL: Makam, and Sufi and Ottoman melodies. The Alhambra of the artistsThe ney player (the most common instrument in Sufi music) Hamza Castro will perform makam (spontaneous improvi-sations of the traditional Turkish and Persian music) and Sufi and Ottoman melodies weaving a dialog with pieces of the Museum of the Alhambra.
