The Great Preamble
Race
A Fun Way to Learn the Preamble to the Constitution
Made By: Jenifer Bazzit
The Great Preamble Race Did you know you could make the arduous task of memorizing the Preamble an enjoyable activity? You can absolutely do it with this activity! Usually, about half way around the game board, the students didn’t need to use the card anymore. They had memorized the Preamble! My students loved this race so much that I extended it to other subjects! Materials Needed:
• Preamble to the U.S. Constitution Student Card • Game Board
Procedure:
1. Begin this activity only after students have learned about the Preamble to the Constitution and have become familiar with the phrases contained in the Preamble.
2. Students will practice reading the Preamble in class and to a partner several times. 3. When the game begins, students will read the Preamble to adults in their lives, ex. other
teachers, parents, neighbors, etc. Each adult that listens to the student read the Preamble signs a space on the game board. He/She may sign a second space if the student explains one of the designated phrases.
4. The first student to reach “finish” wins. 5. I usually asked students to go around the game board twice to win. 6. Give the first few winners some sort of special recognition. My students love having their names
called on the morning announcements.
