Digestion• First function in the digestive system• Breaks down food into smaller pieces so absorption

can occur• Esophagus (food moves down to the stomach) and

the Stomach (uses acids to break down food)

Absorption• Absorbs food to break

down further• 95% happens in small

intestine• Travels through small

intestine, large intestine• Travels all way to the

anus• Separates nutrients from

waste

Elimination

Elimination

• Eliminates waste from body• Stored in rectum until eliminated through

anus• Collects waste from small intestine
