Palm SundayHosanna to the Son of David, the King of Israel. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest

Grace, mercy and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ be with us all

In Lent we have been preparing by works of love and self-sacrifice for the celebration of our Lord's death and resurrection. Today we come together in spirit to begin this solemn celebration in union with the Church throughout the world. Christ enters his own city to complete his work as our Saviour, to suffer, to die, and to rise again. Let us journey with him in faith and love, so that, united with him in his sufferings, we may share his risen life.

Please hold your palm cross while saying this prayer

God our Saviour, whose Son Jesus Christ entered Jerusalem as Messiah to suffer and to die; let these palms be for us signs of his victory and grant that we may ever hail him as our King, and follow him in the way that leads to eternal life; who is alive and reigns now and for ever. Amen.

Hear the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to MatthewGlory to you, O Lord.

Amen.

When the disciples had sung a hymn they went out to the Mount of Olives. Jesus prayed to the Father, ‘If it is possible, take this cup of suffering from me’. He said to his disciples, ‘How is it that

Hymn

There is a green hill far away,without a city wall,where the dear Lord was crucified,who died to save us all.

We may not know, we cannot tell,what pains he had to bear;but we believe it was for ushe hung and suffered there.

He died that we might be forgiv'n,he died to make us good,that we might go at last to heav'n,saved by his precious blood.

There was no other good enoughto pay the price of sin;he only could unlock the gateof heav'n, and let us in.

O dearly, dearly has he loved,and we must love him too,and trust in his redeeming blood,and try his works to do.

If you are able prepare a bowl of water for this part of the service

As we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ from the dead, we remember that through the paschal mystery we have died and been buried with him in baptism, so that we may rise with him to a new life within the family of the Church. Now that we have completed our observance of Lent we recall and give thanks for the gift of our baptism :

God in Christ gives us water welling up for eternal life.With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation.Lord, give us this water and we shall thirst no more.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.It is right to give thanks and praise.Blessed are you, sovereign God of all,to you be glory and praise for ever.You are our light and our salvation.From the deep waters of deathyou have raised your Son to life in triumph.Grant that all who have been born anew by water and the Spiritmay daily be renewed in your image,walk by the light of faith,and serve you in newness of life;

Death is swallowed up in victory.Where, O death, is your sting?Christ is risen from the dead,the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep.Death is swallowed up in victory.The trumpet will soundand the dead shall be raised.Where, O death, is your sting?We shall not all sleep,but we shall be changed.Death is swallowed up in victory.Where, O death, is your sting?
