Arts Council England (2007): Arts, health and well-being: A strategy for partnership
‘..the arts play a hugely valuable role in engaging excluded or hard-to-reach groups or communities who
may not respond to traditional methods of health promotion … The positive impact on children and
young people’s health and wellbeing must be added to the widely recognised impacts on learning and
development experienced through participation in arts activities”..
• 6th event since 2008 concept came from Young people
• Over 700 young people have taken part in this showcase since 2008 by either performing/being a part of the organisation committee/Tech team/ Film crew or compering.
• Over 130 young people went to Pineapple dance studios and
received professional coaching and careers advice from west end performers.
• All young people received Recorded and Accredited Outcomes
• The Woodville on Friday 27 November.
• 9 auditions in schools and Northfleet Youth Centre (NYC)
• Over 100 young people performing • 4 young Film Crew –(NYC)• 5 Tech crew from St Georges School• Youth Council-7• H4U- 10 • Both 7
AIM
Raise awareness of mental health and wellbeing and reduce stigma
Objectives• Every person involved in GYG has a better
understanding of mental health by the end of the event- Everyone has mental health
• Promote the 6 ways to wellbeing (WOW) to provide practical ways that people look after their wellbeing
• Encourage people to ask for help if they need it• Raise money to provide an additional active
listening service for young people

How will the Aims and Objective be achieved?
• Messages on the screen behind performers• Every audience member given information about 6
Ways to Wellbeing• Mind have a stall in spotlights on the night• Information in the programme about the 6 WoW and
short film to be shown during the show• The GYG committee have also created a short film
about mental health to be shown during the show• Mental Health Workshop- Saturday 23rd January 10-12
in Council Chamber.
Measuring
• All young people involved will be working towards a bronze Arts Award
• Audience members will be asked what mental health is on their way into the show and on the way out to compare responses
Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Wellbeing Scale (WEMWBS)
• scale for assessing positive mental health (mental well-being).
• All performers have completed a form at the start or the project and they will complete another at the end
• Audience members will complete a short version of the form at the beginning and end.
Outcomes
• Bronze Arts Award• Warrick Edinburgh at start of project and end
for all young people involved• Warrick Edinburgh at start and end of event.
